Lost my phone-no lock on it

Arghlostmyphone · 06/04/2021 14:50

My head's all over the place-can anyone please help?

I lost my phone while walking in a really small enclosed area last night, within a 5 minute window.
I retraced my steps immediately. No joy-there was one woman in the same area who probably left walking the way I came in.
Its a leafy, wooded area. Lots of undergrowth.

I left the area and then realised I'd lost it and went back
It has no lock. Photos of me naked(!) Notes containing personal information.

I'm such an idiot! I've changed passwords for here, and for all apps I can think of. What may i have forgotten? I've posted on local fb groups, had the sim cancelled-what else could I do? :(

Argh, so sorry OP. Any chance it had Find my iPhone or equivalent on it?

Have you tried going walking back on that route, using another mobile to call your mobile to try and hear you lost phone ring?

Lovelydovey · 06/04/2021 14:53

Ring it?

Happycat1212 · 06/04/2021 15:27

Yeh ring it but the battery probably gone now

OctupusObsidian · 06/04/2021 15:28

Metal detector, and find my phone (this works for several days after the battery has died)

Panicatthegarden · 06/04/2021 15:36

What type of phone do you have? You might be able to get more specific advice that way. It is possible to remotely erase your phone e.g. through your Google account but I'd be trying to get it back first if possible.

Is there anywhere nearby that it could have been handed in? Or your local police station?

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 06/04/2021 15:37

Most major manufacturers have a 'Find my phone' option where they can pick up where the last signal was, and most give you the option to wipe it remotely.
It will depend on your settings though (if you had certain location settings turned off, they won't work).
Apple's is: www.icloud.com/find
Samsung's is: findmymobile.samsung.com/
Any Android phone: www.google.com/android/find?u=0

This happened to DH once. We were out and about in a park and realised about 30 or so minutes later it must have slipped out of his pocket when he was running around: we searched but couldn't find it so got home and rang it. To his relief, someone actually answered and said they had it and we're going to turn it in for us. So relieved! Try ringing it.

Freddiefox · 06/04/2021 15:47

I think you can have them turned off by your carrier.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 06/04/2021 15:49

Try ringing it.

If it's an iPhone, I think you can wipe it remotely via iCloud.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 06/04/2021 15:50

Another thing, do you have any card information saved on there like Apple or Android pay? If so, make sure you cancel your cards.

Tinydinosaur · 06/04/2021 16:04

Try ringing it. But what on earth are you doing not having a lock on your phone?

Also, DH and I have "find my phone" set up so we can see the location of eachothers devices, we've never needed to use it for mine but I use it for DHs several times a month. You can also lock it through that app and set it to ring.

espressoontap · 06/04/2021 16:25

Will a metal detector work if it has a book style cover/case on it? I've ordered one from argos. Going to go collect it soon!

Don’t keep photos (naked) in future!!

Roszie · 06/04/2021 16:56

What type of phone?

Lolwhat · 06/04/2021 17:16

Is it an iPhone? If it is you can wipe it from the cloud

Arghlostmyphone · 06/04/2021 17:18

Find out if you can get the SIM limited to incoming calls only and periodically try it

I've found phones before and just kept them on charge in the hope someone would ring it, although if I found an unlocked one I'd look through the phone book for a "home" or "mum" kind of contact and ring that

Bul21ia · 06/04/2021 17:35

Ahhh I hope you find it! Download Snapchat or something that will delete your photos/message after opening for that type of nature!

Effinell · 06/04/2021 17:37

This thread has made my finally put a lock on my phone Blush Hope you find yours OP!

beginningoftheend · 06/04/2021 17:39

oh this is my worst nightmare, I really hope you find it OP.

I can't believe you had that sort of content and no lock (appreciate this is an unhelpful remark)

Osirus · 06/04/2021 17:40

A metal detector can detect the smallest piece of metal under the ground. It will find your phone in a phone case!

That's what I was so hoping someone would do :( but nothing.

Okay so I've got a 'cheap' hobby sort of metal detector. I am not sure now looking at it if it will work-it claims to do! Should I take it back and pay £££ for another?

I live in a village but with a nearby town best of both worlds where I lost it really isn't known for any dodgy activity. I like to think it would be returned if someone picked it up-but alas nothing as yet so I think it will be still on the ground somewhere

Which phone is it? At the very least activate lost mode (or android equivalent) so no one has access to your data

Arghlostmyphone · 06/04/2021 18:00

I've cancelld the sim and logged out of everything I've remembered to. It's a samsung S2-nothing desirable or worth money.
