Uk Caravan holiday - should we use the on-site facilities?

I booked a four night getaway (in the same country) over a year ago and we’re going this August. Myself and my two primary aged children in a private caravan right beside the beach. It’s on a Haven site and I’m debating whether to let the kids take part in any on site activities or go see shows etc.

I’ve had my vaccination but they’ve obviously not and my youngest picks up every cold and bug going so clearly doesn’t have the strongest immune system.

Is anyone else planning a caravan holiday later this year and debating this? I know we all need to live our lives best we can (we’ve been living like hermits for the past year - following all the rules) and I don’t want them missing out on having fun or making good memories but I’m also scared of them catching covid and wondering if it’s worth the risk.

Yabu - go and have fun at the haven on-site activities
Yanbu - I’d just stick to the caravan and beach

We're going to centre parks in September, we'll be using the onsite stuff.

It’ll depend what it’s like in August. I think it’s too far away to take a guess.

We will be camping on several sites this year, we don’t really use onsite entertainment so it’s not a issue for us, I would feel happy using outside activities if I had younger kids and happy eating in onsite restaurants.

I went on a caravan holiday last year and will be again this year. We used all the facilities and just abided by the social distancing rules in the place, and were fine. We’ll be going to the on-site stuff this year, although to be fair we love spending time at the outdoor play parks and beaches anyway, so that won’t change. We’ll be using the swimming pools and restaurants as well though.

I think you'll find that any activities which are provided very much include social distancing and extra cleaning . Unless you are particularly vulnerable I would take part. It's quite likely that not everything will be up and running as you would have expected pre-Covid

Working in the industry,I can assure you everything is handled with kid gloves, enjoy your holiday,

I think I'd make the judgement when I arrived. The sites will be doing everything they can to be covid safe but they can't account for their customers. There were places near us in Cornwall that closed due to the lack of social distancing by customers in busy little towns.

I personally think it'd be a bit cruel to take them to a holiday site like haven and not let them do any activities on site. They'll be able to see it all happening!
Fair enough going to a caravan only site and exploring the outdoors or similar but I can remember being a kid going to similar sites and I'd have been heartbroken not being allowed to do the activities!

AnnaSW1 · 06/04/2021 14:29

I think it's a bit mean to take them but not let them use the facilities.

We went on a caravan holiday last October between lockdowns and used all the equipment.

I have another one booked for July and will be using everything again.
