Shouting and swearing in arguments?

Jambutterpeanut · 06/04/2021 10:09

Me and my DP had an argument over something silly yesterday (he had had a drink, I had not for context) it got heated and we both shouted and swore at each other and generally not being very nice.

However, in the heat of the moment he called me an ugly cunt. Cunt I can move on from but “ugly cunt” just feels so much worse to me. Both as bad as each other for swearing or is saying ugly crossing a line?!

I do realise we are both childish to be shouting and swearing.

It would be interesting to hear what you called him in this swearing and shouting match before saying whether you're unreasonable or not.

"Ugly cunt" seems a little rude tbh. Like you say, "cunt" is fine, it's just one of those words, but adding "ugly" would be a massive red flag for me and I think it would be relationship-ending.

Returnoftheowl · 06/04/2021 10:39

That would cross the line for me.

ZaraW · 06/04/2021 10:39

What did you call him? Swearing at each other is pretty poor on both sides.

BurbageBrook · 06/04/2021 10:43

That's horrific.

SweetAsANutt · 06/04/2021 10:44

What did you say?

DaphneDuBois · 06/04/2021 10:46

I actually gasped when I read that. That’s beyond awful. Even if you are a couple that swear loads and say the word cunt to each other. I honestly could not get past my own partner calling me an ugly cunt - it’s just so way way over the line it’s abusive.

AmelieTaylor · 06/04/2021 11:02

That's definitely crossed a line (assuming you didn't call him something equally awful first of course).

I draw my line a bit further out than you do anyway, I don't scream & shout (just not my nature) but I can be cutting (so absolutely no better!!). I don't mind swearing as such but I wouldn't tolerate being called names like that. No way.

That's just being nasty. IMO.

It sounds like he has no respect for you
