Reaction to hair dye

Dyed my hair about 11am this morning, so around 12 hours ago. Have taken a reaction to the bleach, my scalp has scans and back of my head had some lumps and slightly swollen. Have taken 2 ibuprofen and took an anti histamine this morning.

Aibu to be totally freaking out?

Have had reactions before and stupidly used it again (totally forgot about reaction 2 years ago).

Am I going to die? I know that sounds extreme but I am panicking now

Are you having any other sort of reaction? Difficulty breathing? If not maybe call 111 for advice? I hope you're ok!

It sounds like you've got a topical reaction. Is it possible to take another anti histamine? Take more ibuprofen, for the antiinflammatory effect. Here's the NHS page on it. It looks like you have contact dermatitis rather than an allergic reaction.

No I don't have any other symptoms apart from the ones I have listed and the anxiety that Googling things is causing me .

I have only taken ibuprofen about 20 mins ago so hopefully that will reduce some of the swelling.

Rinse your head with cold water. I had a reaction once, still get mild ones as well. For the bad one, my hairdresser advised cold rinse. I also had to go to doc as my face swelled up and I had a horrible impetigo type discharge.

Oh I feel your pain it has happened me a few times as well get antihistamine in the morning and I get betnovate scalp lotion it’s a steroid liquid it takes the the pain and itch away really fast (after stinging like crazy for a minute when you apply it) don’t panic it’s just like the worst case of rash but nothing more

I had this ..if the lumps get worse & start itching/weeping...you need Betnovate Scalp Application...it is liquid steriod that works pretty quickly. I had this experience & it got worse over 24-48hrs. I hope when you wale tmrw it will have eased.

Thanks all for the advice. I woke up this morning and swelling had gone down a good bit. Had a nice bath this evening and let my head soak under water for a bit so hopefully in a few days I'll be back to normal
