Giving gifts/cards to ex from the DC

I was thinking those of you who have an OK relationship with your ex and coparent well, do you buy gifts/cards for his birthday or Father's Day so the children can give him? Just something from the children to him, or is it weird? Would love to hear your opinions on this.

Yes me and ex do this. We are amicable. Don't see why anyone would have a problem with this?

Happycat1212 · 05/04/2021 17:40

I’m not amicable with ex now and he is absent but when he was around I did this but he told me not to. I guess it depends on the situation, does he do the same for you?

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 05/04/2021 17:48

Don’t particularly like my ex but I let kids choose gifts for him and I pay. They are small, not expensive/thoughtful ones like I would have bought when we were together.

KillerFlamingo · 05/04/2021 18:08

I wouldn't personally buy something but I'd give the kids money and vague guidance in a shop and let them pick a card and gift.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/04/2021 18:16

Yeah just token things but I get something for kids to give.

thesinglelife · 05/04/2021 18:49

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. Just something small from the children. No he doesn't give me anything, he's not good at remembering birthdays or other dates Hmm

My partner get his ex bday presents and mothers day gifts from the children and she does the same m.

FireflyRainbow · 05/04/2021 18:52

He takes them shopping and they pick stuff

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 05/04/2021 19:10

Me and DH buy for my DSDs Mum and Stepdad. They buy for us. (Christmas, birthdays, mother and Father’s Day). We feel it’s good to show her an amicable relationship.

BigPaperBag · 05/04/2021 19:16

We grit our teeth and buy something for the ex even though she calls both of us foul names. Honestly, I barely know the woman but she still loathes me! I just think of it as enabling the kids to take part in Mother’s Day and birthdays rather than a gift to her so to speak. It’s never reciprocated.

B33Fr33 · 05/04/2021 19:16

I do, or rather did until the children were old enough to sort it themselves.

He didn't at first. But he did start to when the children were probably expecting it and asking about it.

Spied · 05/04/2021 19:21

I would.
It's about making the dc feel good and being a part of special days rather than the recipient.

CatsHairEverywhere2 · 05/04/2021 19:21

I let my children choose a gift but I pay for it yes, though we don’t have an amicable relationship so not quite sure I fit the criteria for replying

In that case I wouldn't bother unless the kids specifically asked
