Energy Drinks

Is the sale of energy drinks to under 16s actually illegal? I can’t seem to find a clear answer online. Lots of talk about proposed bans and consultations but I’m not sure if it is in fact illegal. I know most shops have the ‘think 25’ signs up prohibiting the sale of them to kids.

I found a stash of empty monster energy drink cans under my 13 year old’s bed. I’m absolutely furious! I’ve spoken to him about energy drinks before and I’ve told him he’s not allowed to have them because they’re so bad for you. He has ADHD and is on stimulant medication so I’m really worried about him drinking this awful stuff! He has said that all his friends drink them and that most corner shops sell them to him and his friends regularly. There is one corner shop in particular that they visit almost daily. He uses his pocket money to buy them. I’ve taken his card away from him for a week as punishment.

AIBU- The sale of energy drinks to under 16s is not illegal.

YANBU- it is illegal

It's not actually illegal yet. Looks like it's still under consultation. Horrible stuff though and should be banned for under 16s

I know in Scotland a lot of places have banned sales under 16 voluntarily. Dont know if its the same in England

When I worked in a supermarket we weren't able to sell them to under 16s. I think it was a policy rather than law.
