To be irritated Census people are pestering me?

...when I filled it in on paper?

I'd be astonished if they've opened, logged and checked every paper form already. Yet I've had two visits and two letters reminding me to do it.

Anyone else in England being pestered because they did it on paper. (In Wales it was all on paper I think, so the concept is familiar to them!)

Were you in when they visited? I would have thought they could rock a box to say you've done it and that would clear the 'flag' for your address? It's good to have reminders but there are definite flaws in the process - it can't tell you for example when an address has already completed it, as we found out when DH decided to do ours (I'd already done it)

I wouldn't worry about it, I live in NI where apparently we've only had soft visits until now ie: they don't want to speak with you but put a note through your door
I was in the garden last week and spoke to a lovely lady who was about to put a card in my letterbox. She told me she could add tto her phone that I had completed it
and it should come off the system before she revisits after Easter. It's a mammoth task and I don't envy the workers.

ArosGartref · 04/04/2021 10:37

It was online in Wales.

Jennyennidots · 04/04/2021 10:38

We have internet in Wales too.

Willdoitlater · 04/04/2021 10:53

I know you have internet in Wales. A young relative in Wales told me theirs was all on paper, no internet option offered.

I did my (Welsh) household census online. Your relative is mistaken. But in answer to your question visits and letters already about it seem like overkill although maybe yours got lost or damaged in the post?

rc22 · 04/04/2021 11:08

Yes my parents completed theirs on paper and keep getting reminders to fill it in.

LadyPoison · 04/04/2021 11:09

The Welsh one was definitely available online - that's how I filed mine

Willdoitlater · 04/04/2021 11:18

Really, I was just making the point that Wales (unlike England) still know what paper is and how to use it, based in my relative's experience. It was a compliment actually, and I am sorry to have upset you all.

I've had two reminders ... a friend is actually one of the 'door to door' reminder people so I assured him I'd filled it in and posted it ... we just had a laugh about it .... a few days later I got a letter saying I hadn't returned it Confused ... I telephoned the number on the letter but there was just a message saying to ignore it if you have already completed it ....

Willdoitlater · 04/04/2021 11:32

@Ragwort That's helpful thanks.

I saw two people wearing hi-vis with 'Census 2021' written on the back, going to every house on that particular street last week (I was parked so noticed as I was waiting). They were knocking and putting notes through all doors - not sure if the entire street was on the naughty list or just making a general reminder.

ProfessionalWeirdo · 04/04/2021 12:27

Is there a possibility that some of the paper returns have been lost in the post?

loffie · 04/04/2021 12:29

I completed mine online on Census Day, and I got a follow up 'why haven't you completed your Census yet?' on paper, so I think they're overkeen...

ChristinaYang10 · 04/04/2021 12:34

We had a reminder visit about two days after census day, we told them we’d posted it that morning (which we had), and they’ve not been back since. Not sure if that’s because they’ve now received the form and marked it off, or because the person who knocked on the door marked our house down as having completed it.
