To think these dog stories are not really funny?

I absolutely adore dogs but some of these are just not funny at all! I normally have no problem with muddy paws greeting me out and about but I think on my wedding day even I wouldn't have been too impressed...

Clearly we have differing senses of humour.

I’m so sorry......Having a naughty dog myself, I thought this was 😂

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 01/04/2021 03:55

I can imagine the bride being justifiably quite upset, though some of the other stories are quite funny.

My own dog has committed many sins and it brought back a few memories - the time he took a shit in the middle of the Paddington station concourse in particular. We'd just got off a long distance train, he must have been desperate, it was airy and clearly felt like it was outside, and apparently his paws mistook a floor mat for grass... nothing I could do but wait for him to finish then clear it up Blush

Likewise I'm told he once chewed his way through a previous owners best suit - but unlike some of the dogs mentioned in the article he's managed to avoid chewing taxidermy, despite ample opportunity...

I used to say that he considered the day wasted if he hadn't embarrassed me in public at least 6 times, but we got through today's walk with only 2 social faux pas, so the batting average has improved significantly.... Dogs are like toddlers - bound to cause public embarrassment from time to time.

Muddy paws on my wedding dress would have been the only acceptable marks at my wedding but then I'm a big dog lover, my dress was on sale (beautiful still) and I wasn't precious over it. I would have had the dogs at the wedding in a heartbeat!

Can totally see why it wouldn't go down well for most though Grin

I found most of these pretty funny, especially the knife weilding party dog

DarkishBlue · 01/04/2021 09:33

Agree with OP. Not even mildly amusing.

DingDongDenny · 01/04/2021 09:40

Not so much funny dogs - more inept and irresponsible owners

Poor bride, I'd have been furious

Mittens030869 · 01/04/2021 10:46

I don’t find this funny either. The bride must have been devastated, I would have been.

And I find naughty dog stories funny mostly.

Alsohuman · 01/04/2021 10:50

I’ve just laughed my way through those. While feeling smug that my dog seems positively angelic.

CounsellorTroi · 01/04/2021 11:00

I wasn’t amused by the owners who left their dog behind at a motorway service station. That could have easily ended in tragedy. Some of the others are funny though.

What really makes me angry are those “funny” videos where the owners have put fucking SHOES on their dogs and think it’s funny watching them floundering about. Or the ones who think it’s funny when their dog harasses wildlife or livestock. I love dogs and sometimes they really are funny, but.......

onlythewildones · 01/04/2021 11:33

MrsGogolsGumbo I did laugh at the knife wielding dog. No doubt most of the parents were traumatised! I loved the dog that got onto the rugby pitch too because no harm done.

But things like peeing on a lady on a bench, chewing through £250 in cash, nicking a bouquet and a shawl from a wedding (those things could've been really meaningful to someone) and yes absolutely the dog abandoned at the service station, I just don't find those funny. I agree with DingDongDenny that these stories just make the owners sound inept and irresponsible. My two best friends individually have very well trained dogs, I walk with them regularly, and never once have I been embarrassed by their behaviour.

Yes I absolutely agree that they weren't all funny, some of the ones referenced above made me a bit judgy pants but I also know that sometimes people/animals do daft things.

I can't imagine leaving DDog at services either (can't figure out why would the dog be loose/tied up outside the car?) but when I first got him I almost left him tied up outside the local shop because I was distracted, walked a few paces away and realised!

Despite training and keeping a close eye on him he will occasionally do something hugely embarrassing like one time he stealthily stole a little boys biscuit out of his hand (extremely gently mind you - not the point but no child was harmed!) as I was talking to his mum Shock

Absolutely mortifying, not his usual behaviour and he's adequately fed!

The little boy just looked a bit confused about the disappearing biscuit and the mum thought it was hilarious, I did not!

I've thawed a little on it now and can have a wee giggle about it but at the time I was really embarrassed. Shit happens sometimes even with the best will and decent training in place.

onlythewildones · 01/04/2021 18:55

Ah I would find it funny if I was chatting to someone and their dog pinched my kid's biscuit. To me that's not a big deal, plus I think often kids hold their food at just the right height and in such a way that a dog might misinterpret it as being offered a treat!

OP posts:
MrsGogolsGumbo · 01/04/2021 19:21

I was lucky, he has a soft mouth but a lot of people wouldn't find it funny and think I was a terrible owner and that my dog has no manners - frankly I did at the time too! Blush

I agree about the height thing but Ddog has been trained to sit first to be given treats so it was a definite Grand Theft Biscuit, he knows better but clearly a plain biscuit was just too tempting that day.

Ddog you are absolutely not allowed to steal biscuits from anyone but most particularly not from small unsuspecting children!
