Anyone else love these? I’ve not long discovered then and am loving the opportunity to try new meals I’d have never considered before (some I’ve never heard of). I was stuck in a rut cooking the same meals on repeat, this have changed that. What are your faves?

triplechoc · 31/03/2021 16:18

We’ve just started getting these, for the same reason! Hits have been Beef Massaman, Chicken Makhani, Lamb kofte flatbreads, a few were just meh, or would have been better with some adjustments (eg different veg or carb); the only complete miss was Mexican Pork One-Pot, which was so bland!

Everythingiswonderful · 31/03/2021 16:21

BBQ tandoori chicken with sweet potato wedges
Indian spiced burgers
Beef stroganoff
However I turned veggie in Jan,
I’ve got lamb rogan josh and Bombay biryani to make but will need to make them veggie versions. I just hate that they are all in little plastic pots with plastic lids so won’t be ordering any more.

I wasn’t keen on the murgh kari -tasteless but salty
Jerk chicken was nothing special nor was the
Penne alla Rustica

Summersun2020 · 31/03/2021 16:27

@triplechoc that’s why I prefer them to gousto/hello fresh/etc, can swap out fresh ingredients for ones I prefer. I always make the sausage and fennel pasta bake with spinach instead of kale, for example. The chicken makhani is gorgeous isnt it!

@Everythingiswonderful the little pots are recyclable though (although I know this still has a carbon footprint). Ooh really? I’ve ordered the murgh kari in this months box, was keen to try it. Will see what I think! I really love the penne alla rustica. Wasn’t fussy on the jerk chicken or Peruvian chicken-Tamil black pepper chicken was a reorder for us though. The flavoured rice with it is to die for.

The moqueca is one of my faves, absolutely gorgeous and so different.

Bean and sweet corn burrito was great

Summersun2020 · 31/03/2021 16:32

@notanothertakeaway ooh I haven’t tried any of the Mexican ones (burrito/fajitas etc) as thought they may be like supermarket meal kids and all taste the same. Would you recommend them then?

Discovered them in lockdown. It gets veg and different food into my teens. We hardly eat chips anymore! Mostly rice and noodles

Favs
Penne alla rustica
Katsu Chicken
Sichaun Dan Dan Noodles
Bang Bang Chicken
Lamb Keema Matar
Chicken Makhani
Vietnamese Pork
Cuban Prawn Pasta

Basically most of them!!

moochingtothepub · 31/03/2021 17:28

Me! Quite reasonable compared to takeaways and better quality than ready meals

moochingtothepub · 31/03/2021 17:30

@triplechoc

We like the Mexican one pot but I do add fresh chilli and coriander (which to be fair I do to nearly everything, I also triple the garlic in recipes)

Has2sons · 31/03/2021 17:34

Tbh not had one we didn’t like. I love the curries - there are a couple of Indian ones and Thai ones, sons liked the quesadillas and husband likes the Malay laksa. I was talking about them to my dad this time last year - growing up he could make us bacon and egg, nothing else. He loves these and has taken over the kitchen from my mum - so she loves that aspect! It’s got them through lockdown!

greeneyedlulu · 31/03/2021 17:34

And they sell them in asda! The goan fish curry is fab!!

msbevvy · 31/03/2021 17:35

Asda have some of the spice kits for £1.50 at the moment

marplemead · 31/03/2021 17:37

We get them when they are on offer at Waitrose, and save for a busy weeknight. Our favourite is the Goan Fish Curry, but it's a little bit too spicy for DD.

Hopdathelf · 31/03/2021 17:41

The barbecue sour cream that comes with the quesadilla is amazing. If they sold that I’d buy it by the bucketload.

I found the chilli con carne a bit meh. The beetroot orzotto was foul. Other than that all hits.

Summersun2020 · 31/03/2021 17:44

@I8toys bang bang chicken also arriving with this months box. Excited to try it!
Yeah all the curry’s I’ve tried were great. I enjoyed the spinach chicken, was quite dry but really tasty. Definitely cut down on takeaways since using them.
The Asda boxes are a bargain when on offer...just not quite the same selection as the website

We absolutely love them too. And for once when it says 20 or 25 minutes to make the recipe it's the truth ! DH is also gluten free and milk free and we can find easy substitutes if needed (cream, creme fraiche) .
Our favourites are
Thai green curry
Chicken makhani
Korma
Chipotle steak
Honey and mustard chicken

Summersun2020 · 31/03/2021 18:05

@ExplodingCarrots the nite abs mustard chicken was one I couldn’t get excited about trying but once I did... 😍😍😍

SecretSpAD · 31/03/2021 18:23

We've started getting these as we're all fed up with the same meals. Loving them. The Cuban prawn pasta dish was a big hit, as was the burrito bowl and the Santa Fe chicken. Also loving the curries.

I prefer them to recipe boxes as they seem expensive for what they are and I'm sure it's cheaper to just get in stock ingredients?

ExplodingCarrots · 31/03/2021 18:29

The herby mash that accompanied it was Devine !

whiteonesugar · 31/03/2021 18:37

Mojo pasta / Cuban prawn pasta (same thing but ones veggie)
Makhani (chicken or veg)
Penne alla rustica
Beef rendang
Tinga chicken tacos
Miso cod or aubergine
Sichuan Dan Dan noodles

These are some of our favourites. I am a massive fan of them!

TOWGA · 31/03/2021 18:58

We have used simply cook once so far but going to be using it more often so this thread is good!

Its90minutestonight · 23/05/2021 19:42

Re the plastic spice boxes, they were supposed to be switching to compostible pots but I guess Covid has delayed that.

Summersun2020 · 23/05/2021 20:27

@Its90minutestonight yeah I’d imagine so.
New fave...bang bang chicken! Wow 😍

MoiraQueen · 23/05/2021 20:32

Tesco have a few on a £5 meal deal atm (protein, veg, carb plus simply cook), if anyone wants to try them.

Fkrkrodps · 23/05/2021 20:46

I’ve really enjoyed Nyonya, Balinese chicken curry, ca Kho to (not sure if that’s spelt right) and lamb keema matar.

Nasi Goreng and the biryani are two we wouldnt get again.

Pascha · 23/05/2021 20:51

I rend to either love or hate the recipes. I don't find the curries very appetising, they always come out too watery for me and 'sauce-y' and not very spicy.
I love most of the prawn ones. The Cuban prawn pasta and the jambalaya are lush. The Japanese seared steak is amazing.

I do tend to swap veg out and often substitute the protein depending on what I have in the fridge on any given day.
