"Govt Pay me to be in Covid scheme"

CSIblonde · 30/03/2021 21:11

According to the maskless woman who shoved past everyone to the front of the queue in the supermarket just now & chucked a quid for her chocolate at the staff, she's "had the jab, is tested every week & gets paid £25 a month to be part of a Covid test group". Really? Staff just looked bemused, queue was v unimpressed, me included. What 'scheme' is this ?

The ONS scheme pays you £25 per COVID test every week.

GiggyThePomeranian · 30/03/2021 21:13

I should say, pay is in voucher form.

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/03/2021 21:13
Hmm
Sparklesocks · 30/03/2021 21:14

Not sure why you’d be able to queue jump even if you were immune to covid

Springingintospring · 30/03/2021 21:15

Yeah me and dp are doing it. Getting £850 overall for it.
Not sure why she's using it as a reason to queue push though??

ColourfulElmerElephant · 30/03/2021 21:15

ONS but it’s for covid testing, not queue jumping.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 30/03/2021 21:15

Ex-h is in this. £50 for first test, £25 each time since.
He's having a blood test this time too presumably for anti-bodies. He was selected at random, didn't volunteer or anything.

Velouria · 30/03/2021 21:16

Where the fuck you sign up for this shit haha

userxx · 30/03/2021 21:16

So there was a queue and she basically walked to the front ignoring everyone else? Did nobody say "excuse me cheeky bitch off to the back you fuck?"

Astraturf · 30/03/2021 21:17

It's a £25 per month voucher but you get the results after more than a week and it definitely doesn't say you can jump queues

WillowKnicks · 30/03/2021 21:18

I'm on it, it's run by the Office For National Statistics. It was a covid test every week for the first 5 weeks, then monthly & yes we get £25 in vouchers for every test.

Doesn't mean I push in queues, though & don't wear masks.

MadMadMadamMim · 30/03/2021 21:18

Our household is in it.

I still wear a mask and queue in the supermarket. And I'm pretty sure I'm immune to Covid now. I'm in long Covid, have regular blood tests which show antibodies and regular swabs which are negative. I have had the first of my jabs.

Still doesn't make me special.

Gatekeeper · 30/03/2021 21:21

A couple I know get tested every week and get £50 of vouchers which they use in Tesco

MadMadMadamMim · 30/03/2021 21:27

No.

You only get £50 for the first test. Then £25 per week for another 4 weeks.

They then come once a month for £25.

You can choose from a long list of retailers where to use your e-vouchers.

Cheeringmeup · 30/03/2021 21:28

It's the Office for National Statistics Covid infection survey. We're in it too (me and 21yo and 16yo). Vouchers as pps said but it absolutely does not give us permission to not wear masks or queue jump! She was just an idiot.
It's a random selection of households, you have to be asked, you can't apply.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 30/03/2021 23:46

We are in it. Its quite a lot of money, I'd have done it for a fiver! I think we answered some random ONS survey and few weeks prior to being selected, dont know if it was connected

EmilyEmmabob · 30/03/2021 23:53

Well this is news to me! I’m taking part in an ONS study along with most of the staff and 2 year groups of students at my school (teacher). We have a Covid test and an AB blood test every month, we get paid nothing!

CSIblonde · 31/03/2021 01:24

I think people were too taken aback & gobsmacked to comment. As she left, someone muttered 'thats not 2metres' & she loudly said something about 'not being a dog' ?! Bizarre.

OP posts:
Blueeyedgirl21 · 31/03/2021 07:40

She sounds batshit but equally the muttering about 2 meters is irritating and stupid also

Meatshake · 31/03/2021 07:58

Yeh I'm in that scheme. £25 for swab test £25 for blood test. Weekly for 2 months then monthly thereafter.

The queue/jab bit is bollocks though.

bigbluebus · 31/03/2021 08:03

All I can say is that the survey needs idiots like her to reflect the trends amongst the general public. ONS pick random cross sections of the public for all kinds of surveys - some paid (by voucher) some not.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/03/2021 08:42

Dh and I have been doing the ONS testing. Once a week for a month, then once a month for a year. £25 voucher each per test, not bad for momentary discomfort.

It doesn’t entitle us to queue-jump though - the woman was being ridiculous.
