To ask what the difference is between ‘mom’ jeans and ‘boyfriend’ jeans?

I bought a pair of ‘mom’ jeans from Topshop last Spring and have worn them twice. I really struggle to make them look good. I’m a size 8 so hardly massive but they make my area look huge!

They just didn’t live up to my expectations sadly. I’m wondering what the difference is between those and boyfriend jeans and wonder if those were actually what I should’ve bought?

Thanks guys. I might look into girlfriend jeans?

I always see celebs (particularly American ones) wearing what look like mom/ BF jeans and they always manage to look relaxed and stylish.

I’d like something a bit looser than skinny’s (I LOVE skinny’s, live in them but appreciate they’re not that fashionable anymore.) something a bit more ‘relaxed’ out and about I swear I see women in more relaxed, straight leg styles and they always look really good. Perhaps they’re Girlfriend jeans? Or maybe just straight cut with rolled up bottoms?

What body shop do mom jeans suit best? Ie. Pear? Rectangle etc? And are they always short in the leg?

LizBennet · 30/03/2021 16:16

I personally have small boobs, small waist, rounded bum and hips, average height. The ones I own are all short in the leg.

I love mom jeans but you do have to have a very specific figure for them: small waist, hips and rounded arse. Finally I’m in fashion 😂. If you’re more straight up and down, you need to size up to fit your waist and then the bum looks flat and baggy. If your bum is flatter, then obviously it’ll look flat and baggy in mom anyway.

I’m sticking with skinny jeans - but then I’m of the age and temperament where I wear what I want and don’t really care anyway ... I’m not very curvy so anything loose looks frumpy on me

Honestly the older I get the less I wear jeans at all.

I'm 36 and can't remember the last time I wore a pair, except a maternity pair when pregnant with DS who is 4.

I'm the same, just find them uncomfortable. I've got thighs, a big bum, short legs and a smallish waist, but a bit of a mum tum. It's leggings and dresses all the way with me. Jeans just dig in. If I have to wear jeans, it's weirdly skinny jeans that are the most flattering.
