Yet another abomination that I have to endure every working day....

PragmaticWench · 29/03/2021 18:40

Since never. I hate mentality correcting every grammatical abomination but I do also get a perverse pleasure from it.

A balanced view Why does one irritate me so much then? I think I need a break from work....

I don't know how OP isn't reaching for a strong glass of something right now.
NiceGerbil · 29/03/2021 18:56

Similar time to when starting every other sentence with 'so' happened probs

This stuff doesn't bother me tbh. As long as everyone understands then meh

Ponoka7 · 29/03/2021 18:57

Both have come into usage. The original was 'with regards to'. But now 'in regard to' isn't considered incorrect.

Cardboardeaux · 29/03/2021 19:04

YANBU, it's a linguistic abomination! Particularly annoying when you could easily substitute a single word like "about", "on" etc depending on context.

WTF99 · 29/03/2021 19:13

@PragmaticWench

In relation to. With regard to.
Well yes!
OP posts:
HavelockVetinari · 29/03/2021 19:18

Actually both are wrong (sorry!).

The correct phrase is either "with regard to" or "in regard to" - it's not plural. Personally I prefer the former, I'd never use "in regard to", but it's technically correct.

Yeah, but it is incorrect though, innit?

You're lucky - an ex boss of mine said 'in regards with'. As well as 'Hence because'.

As regards, with regard to, regarding all correct.
In regards to is incorrect, and sod its increasing use as legitimising it.

As a teacher I have to correct this one constantly. Doesn't help that I see it in emails/documents, along with "send it to X or I".

I thought it was an Australian thing as that's where I first encountered it.

I don't agree it's pedantry, unless one is gratuitously correcting a poster on MN.

Authenticchicken · 29/03/2021 20:37

In regards to makes no sense whatsoever!
