...to think that my friends wedding in Greece is not going ahead in August

She seems convinced that it is going ahead and I am not so optimistic. What are the chances?

HooHaaaaaa · 29/03/2021 11:50

I would say pretty much zero!

Cheeseandlobster · 29/03/2021 11:51

I hope so for her sake but I would be mentally preparing for it not to be going ahead if I were her. Shit times Sad

JorisBonson · 29/03/2021 11:51

Doubtful. BIL supposed to be getting married in Italy in September and they've postponed again.

diwrnachoflleyn · 29/03/2021 11:51

By August? I'd say yes. But if you don't want to go then don't. It's probably a fake wedding, a lot of destination ones are because they're not legal so the couple has a real wedding in the UK and then a fake show off.

WithTeaTree · 29/03/2021 11:52

Pretty much zero. I’m at one in Scotland at the same time and I’m not even sure that’ll be on.

helloiamnewhere · 29/03/2021 11:52

@cheeseandlobster - I am so sad for her and obviously not letting my negative energy be felt, just really not feeling very positive about the whole thing...

Racoonworld · 29/03/2021 11:53

Probably will be able to go ahead as long as everyone travelling have either had both vaccines or can quarantine/test.

helloiamnewhere · 29/03/2021 11:53

It is definitely not a fake wedding to show off haha, I would love to go and have flights and accommodation booked, just don't think we will be able to!

OP posts:
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 29/03/2021 11:53

It might be, if they are vaccinated.

JorisBonson · 29/03/2021 12:07

That's pleasant @diwrnachoflleyn. How do you know they're not Greek and going home to get married?

moochingtothepub · 29/03/2021 12:09

I would say it's 50/50. Tourism is worth too much to keep countries closed unnecessarily. If it were June I would say not a chance but by August we'll all have had one vaccine, many 2

SpiderinaWingMirror · 29/03/2021 12:11

Greece letting vaccinated tourists in? Pretty good.
UK letting people out? 50 50 dependent on which way the wind is blowing and the location of mps holiday homes.

BeeDavis · 29/03/2021 12:30

Let her he optimistic, its her wedding she’s supposed to be excited about it! My wedding was supposed to be in 4 weeks time and up until Xmas I was very positive that it would go ahead! Until she hears the words of course she’s going to be positive. Keep your negative thoughts to yourself she doesn’t need to hear them. It will be in the back of her mind 100%, but she’s choosing to be positive.

luxxlisbon · 29/03/2021 12:34

I would say it would go ahead. You will probably need a negative test if you are returning to the UK which may limit guests but I think Greece will be allowing people in and will probably have more generous limits on weddings compared to the UK.

Kidsaregrim · 29/03/2021 12:35

Hmmmm are you my friend?

I’m getting married in Greece in august, nearly all of the wedding party are vaccinated and all restrictions are supposedly going to be done by June so with the roadmap in mind why not?

As for the whole it’s not legal comment, it is 100% legal to get married in Greece

kittensarecute · 29/03/2021 12:38

Umm...all restrictions are ending in June, aren't they, unless I've missed something?? 🤔

GinIsNotOriginal · 29/03/2021 12:39

I’m inclined to agree with you

skeggycaggy · 29/03/2021 12:39

We’ve got a wedding in Italy in September... I’m doubtful.

FirmlyRooted · 29/03/2021 12:40

Greece will 100% be open for tourists. Will the UK let people go or require quarantine on return? That's anybody's guess, last summer quarantine restrictions changed with a few hours' notice

CarefulNoww · 29/03/2021 12:40

Considering that cases are rising in mainland Europe I highly doubt it.

Cases may be falling here but on the continent they're not. We may be coming out of full lockdown here but last I saw cases are getting higher and higher in Greece.

helloiamnewhere · 29/03/2021 12:40

Oh I am definitely not letting my pessimistic thoughts be known to my friend! I would also love to go so hope I am wrong! It's not the UK I am worried about now, with the success of the vaccination programme, it's being allowed to leave the country! I guess we can't even really predict one week to the next at the moment anyway :)

We don’t know about the resumption of international travel.

Restrictions on social mixing are expected to be lifted in June, assuming all proceeds according to the roadmap...

folloyourarro · 29/03/2021 12:41

We are due to go to Greece in August. Couple weeks ago I was convinced we were going, this week I'm not. I couldn't say either way at this stage, too early to say.

MsTSwift · 29/03/2021 12:46

We got away last year (Europe by car) which was wonderful and was hoping for Greece in August. Tbh in last two weeks have given up the idea and booked a week here

TheLadyGrayson · 29/03/2021 12:51

Coming from someone who also has a destination wedding planned for later this summer, it’s a nightmare facing up to the unlikelihood of it going ahead, or cancelling too soon and feeling when your date comes around that it could have happened. Then you have the constant media speculation to endure, it’s a real rollercoaster and not how you imagine the process to be.

I am waiting for the global task force announcement on 5 April before making a final call, I bet your friend will have updates for you then too. At least Greece have been open about wanting to encourage tourism when they can.

You come across as an understanding friend - she’s lucky to have you 🙂
