re. Travelodge stay on way to support bubble?

I'm travelling to my support bubble (parents) for two weeks for the school Easter holidays for childcare (I have to work the whole two weeks). It is a long way (300 miles+) and I'm driving solo, so keen to break the journey and stay overnight somewhere on the way. I can't figure out from the Covid rules if this is allowed or not - i.e. if I can stay overnight in a travelodge or something on the way up? Does anyone know? Thanks.

I stayed in a premier inn last week in connection with helping my support bubble move house. It was fine. Make sure you tick Business not Leisure on the booking. Also have something that backs up what your reason is. I had a file of legal paperwork. But actually wasn’t asked for it.

I think it would be ok as its linked with your support bubble, as NameChanged said. What isn't on is booking a travelodge to enjoy a holiday or trips out, if it's to break your journey to your support bubble then that is a very valid reason.

Thanks both.
Not sure how I can legitimately tick business...although I guess that the travel to my SB is fundamentally so that I can work so maybe that's how.
What's annoying is that non of the government rules on hotel stays cover this. I think the only one I could state if challenged on the night is that I am 'unable to return to my main residence' as it is too far and I'm too tired etc.
So bloody ambiguous!

OP, it is “business” because it relates to your ability to do your job. It certainly isn’t leisure is it?

Yes, I guess so. I sort of think of business as a man in a suit having a meeting...but yes I cannot work unless I have childcare and this is to get childcare from my SB, so yes.
Ok, thanks. The hotel has said it's fine, so hopefully all OK.
