It involved a fisherman's wife making kedgeree!?!

I appreciate that it's not a lot to go by. Blush But it was one of my sister's favourites when she was very young, and she's desperate to remember the title!

Thank you omu
Handa’s surprise.
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

The lighthouse keepers lunch?

B33Fr33 · 28/03/2021 21:36

Is it in Mowzer?

Nobranothanks · 28/03/2021 21:52

The light house keepers lunch!

JaninaDuszejko · 28/03/2021 21:53

It's not Handa's Surprise, that's set in Africa and is about fruit.

The Mousehole Cat

StanfordPines · 28/03/2021 21:56

I don’t think there was kedgeree in the Lighthouse Keepers Lunch.

Was it a picture book?

seatofmars · 28/03/2021 21:59

Wasn't it Marmite in the Lighthouse Keepers Lunch?

StanfordPines · 28/03/2021 22:01

Wasn't it Marmite in the Lighthouse Keepers Lunch?
Mustard in the sandwiches. But she did make him a huge lunch. Lots of lovely 70s food, like peach surprise, but no kedgeree as I recall.
DoraChance · 28/03/2021 22:02

There's definitely a lot of fishy dishes in The Mousehole Cat.

seatofmars · 28/03/2021 22:06

@StanfordPines

Oh, yes!

I remember it being a really satisfying book...the lunch going alone the line. Need to get hold of it again.

MountainBunny · 28/03/2021 22:12

The Mousehole Cat?

LostInTime · 28/03/2021 22:16

It's stargazy pie in the Mousehole Cat.

thebookeatinggirl · 28/03/2021 22:27

There's a picture book called Haddock by Jan Mark, where a mermaid loves a fisherman, and disguises herself as human but he insists on eating kedgeree, which puts her off...

transformandriseup · 28/03/2021 22:35

From The Mousehole Cat

On Mondays they made morgy-broth, on Tuesdays they baked hake, on Wednesdays they cooked kedgeree, on Thursdays they grilled fairmaids, on Fridays they fried launces, on Saturdays they soused scad and on Sundays, they made star-gazy pie.

The fisherman didn't have a wife though.

Reindeerrattle · 28/03/2021 22:36

Not sure how hold your sister is. Was it a picture boom or a chapter book? Topsy and Tim at the seaside? I think the fisherman's wife cooks mackerel though. Good luck with the search!

Thehop · 28/03/2021 22:38

Wasn’t the fisherman and his wife was it?

Reindeerrattle · 28/03/2021 22:38

Old and book not hold and boom!

Trulyatraditionalman · 29/03/2021 07:13

Thanks all, it was actually this one!! Her memory was slightly off as it wasn't the fisherman's wife, it was about a fisherman's mother and a mermaid!
