I drove for over 32 years no accidents myself however a couple of cars hit me.
Late 40s started to get nervous then had a couple of dizzy spells at 50.Tried to drive again and ended up abandoning my car a few miles away to be collected later by dh.
I kept a car and stopped driving fearing I never would drive.
Fast forward to now.HRT for the last year and decided to drive around local roads with dh.I just wondered did anyone stop driving and restart. What did you do?
I am thinking of having some lessons.

Hypnotherapy. Completely changed my life Smile

Agreed - I used a hypnotic relaxation track. You get into a relaxed state then imagine doing the thing that makes you anxious. I completely got over my driving anxiety at the time, though it came back a few years later after I went through a bout of depression.

Unfortunately I hadn't managed to 'cure' it again before my car died and I gave it up to save money. I haven't driven (or needed to) for 10 years now. I sometimes think about taking a couple of lessons to get back into it. In fact I was going to before Covid.

Oh yes I had hypnosis for a phobia yrs ago.Good idea.
I drove quite well over the roundabout which was one thing I got scared of bizarrely.Too nervous to complete the whole return journey. But hey one week ago I wouldn't have tried.😀

I had this from out of nowhere à few years back. No idea where it came from and why which I found really distressing.

I needed to be able to drive so knew I had to do something.

What worked for me was buying a car I loved and always wanted. Nothing flash. It was an ancient thing but I absolutely loved it. Cost me less than £500 and was beautiful! I appreciate this may not be possible if you've always loved a Ferrari! 😂

I found it made me so happy seeing it I just wanted to drive it.

Now the beauty has gone on to a new loving owner (3rd DC meant I needed to up size) and I've been able to drive the new one now the fear is gone.
