If anyone has references or recommendations for reading on the topic please post link. After discussion with DSis, I was interested to do some reading on the topic. Any book, magazine, podcast articles you'd recommend?

Men mostly. You know, the same ones that run prostitution, exploit teenage girls, push hormones on teenagers, abuse women.

Men make the money. Men benefit. Men exploit women.

Just adding to the 100% . It is the most reasonable of questions and I would have thought the most important thing to ask adolescents to think about during sex education classes or whatever they have nowadays, I bet it isn't mentioned, maybe that is unreasonable and teachers can tell us if the money side is discussed. This actually crossed my mind the other night when I saw a reference to magazine porn and I was thinking about the women who apparantly consided it a business opportunity to appear naked in them (Playboy etc). Who made the fortune, follow the money as they say.

Much of the money in it has gone due to the availability of free content. The business model of the big tube sites is much like YouTube, people create and post their own content, the site takes revenue from advertisers and pays the content creators a cut based on views. Much of the money therefore ends up with 'amateur' performers who could be your next door neighbor for all you know.

I have several friends (mostly couples) who sell amateur content. They make money through it; the websites they pay subscription fees to to host on also take a cut. I think this will increasingly become the case in years to come, a larger and more diverse performer base of non-professionals.

There's a great podcast by Jon Ronson on audible called The last days of August, primarily it's about August Ames-a porn star and her tragic ending but it gives a good insight into the porn culture

I imagine everyone involved in making the films makes money, some more than others, just like in 'normal' films. The more 'glossy and well made they are, the better the pay. Some porn actors are famous within the industry and even win awards!

The actor, Tyger Drew-Honey, has a mum and dad who were very successful porn stars. He grew not knowing, eventually the penny dropped of course.

Like many industries it's probably very hard to follow the money. I'd read the "The Pornography Industry" (Tarrant) a few years back, but it has probably dated. But it does touch on the various roles, pay rates, etc. I've no idea how accurate it is.

I don't really watch much porn, and have never seen a lot of it, but what I find incredible is how many people are filmed having sex.

Dont know about now but about 10years ago my friends who were porn actors and actresses made a mint. Obviously less than the company but they got a very fair price

The other point is that in general especially for the women it's not something you can do long term. While the people funding, producing, etc etc can do it as a career.

Porn stars make a shit ton of money, especially the well known women - why’s everyone saying exclusively men? Porn with women in is the biggest seller!

There's also stuff about women signing contracts they didn't understand...

With regards to the actors - it’s probably one of the only industries where women are paid more than men.

There's a lot of stuff like only fans now. Do women give stuff for free in order to get interest iyswim.
