Just caught the last 40 mins of this film on 5 star - I think I've cringed so much I'm inside out. What on earth were whoever produced this thinking. I'm actually embarrassed for everyone involved in it.

I don't watch any remake tbh. Unless it's a mockbuster🙈

PrelovedWithValue · 27/03/2021 14:17

Is this the one for tv, with Nicole Sherzinger? It's so bad. If the first one had been like that, it wouldn't be the classic it is.

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 27/03/2021 14:26

Just flicked through sky and couldn't even bring myself to check it out lol

NewPapaGuinea · 27/03/2021 14:27

I don’t understand why film studios remake classics. Like, you’re not going to improve on it so why bother. Remake a shit film with potential if you really want to do a remake.

JaninaDuszejko · 27/03/2021 14:27

Just watched the original with the DDs, they loved it. It's such a classic why would you need to remake it?

littlepattilou · 27/03/2021 14:28

No WAY! Dirty Dancing could never be remade. It was a chick-flick classic!

Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2021 14:29

Worse than Grease 2 even?

wizzbangfizz · 27/03/2021 14:38

Yes it was Nicole S and also Grace from will and grace was it it and can't compare to Grease 2 as I haven't seen it. It was so awful but I just couldn't turn it on. The way they massacred the ending Confused

Nothing can be worse than Grease 2
Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2021 14:41

Here's the DD deleted scene to make everything better. Grin Pretend you never saw the sequel.

wizzbangfizz · 27/03/2021 14:44

@KurtWilde I challenge you to watch this travesty of a remake and say that it is worse.

Nah, you're alright. Don't need to see a sex scene where the female is at best just legal apparently 'seducing' a bloke in his thirties.
Magnificentmug12 · 27/03/2021 14:50

The entire point of the film DD, the pinnacle...is the lift at the end- done perfectly, legs together and straight. The remake of that....well my mouth just dropped open really, I mean....did anyone even try to do a half decent job of it?

No is the answer. Worse remake ever!

Joeblack066 · 27/03/2021 14:58

Shouldn’t have made the first one in my opinion but there ya go.
Young girl, man twice her age, all being normalised as romance.
Never understood why it’s a ‘classic’.

ShinyMe · 27/03/2021 15:05

Dirty Dancing is terrible! Why on earth would they remake such tosh?

I caught Gogglesprogs the other week and was pleased to see that the majority of them hated it, so at least modern youngsters have a bit more sense.

Magnificentmug12 · 27/03/2021 15:05

....because the dancing AND soundtrack is amazing, that’s why it’s a classic.

When “she’s like the wind” plays, it pulls my heart every time ❤️

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/03/2021 15:06

Wasn't Baby fresh 18 and Johny early 20s? That's not really an issue...

Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2021 15:07

Nah, you're alright. Don't need to see a sex scene where the female is at best just legal apparently 'seducing' a bloke in his thirties.

Don't panic-it's not real you know, it's all made up. Shock Grin

Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2021 15:10

The two lead actors in it were something like 27 and 35 so it's all good. Grin

I wouldn't be best pleased if I took a teenage DD on a family holiday and she started sleeping with the sleazeball dance teacher personally, but the parents seem to have got their heads around it by the end and seemed very pleased. Confused

MarieDelaere · 27/03/2021 15:14

The movie is set in 1963, and Baby is 18, while Jonny is 24. In real life Jennifer Grey was 26 when she was cast as Baby, a character that was intended to be fresh out of high school. When Patrick Swayze was cast to play the role of Johnny in the film, he was 34.

I found this online. I can see why it's confusing.

Another bewildering remake was From Here To Eternity. Oh and A Town Like Alice. Wonderful films butchered into TV mini-series with crap acting and woeful scripts. Even the sunshine phoned in its performance for these two.

Magnificentmug12 · 27/03/2021 15:15

Johnny wasn’t in his 30’s

In real life there is only about 5-7 years diffence. On stage she was 18 and Johnny 24.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/03/2021 15:15

Shock at that deleted scene. I'm on my own and felt like reaching for a cushion to hide behind!

Wynston · 27/03/2021 15:26

I never knew they had remade it.......it was awful.
I still watched it as I needed to be sure.
Shame on them all!!

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 27/03/2021 15:35

There is heritage protection for buildings. I am wondering if there should be the same for some films and theatre productions, so there cannot be cheap and nasty remakes? Not sure how you would define it and perhaps limited to only a few films a year, perhaps.
