To think that it's time to rename AIBU "For Traffic"?

  1. The majority of threads posted here aren't asking about reasonableness at all

  2. might it make it less confrontational than the current reputation of AIBU? (yeah, right... 😂)

So which covers this thread?

@BullOx

So which covers this thread?
?

This clearly asks whether I'm being unreasonable to think it should be renamed.

Is it getting in the way of all the made up CF and MiL dramas you're trying to read?

VainAbigail · 27/03/2021 15:02

YANBU.

Chat or 30 Days Only are the places to be.

Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2021 15:05

Totally agree, also using AIBU for the vote function when it's not an AIBU at all.

I want AIBU reserved for petty gripes about cat poo/shoes on or off in the house etc not all this 'for traffic' nonsense with voting that makes no sense.

LadyWithLapdog · 27/03/2021 15:07

I agree. The confrontational style permeates other areas. It’s exhausting and depressing. I know I can always take a break, hide threads and so on.

SummaLuvin · 27/03/2021 15:07

I like AIBU when it is used properly, but it has become a dumping ground for anything. "No you are not being unreasonable for wanting to loose weight, but you are for starting another boring AF dieting thread in AIBU!!!" Whenever I comment suggesting the correct subsection I get sarcastic comment about being the thread police and told people can post where they want. I do think MN majorly need to review the subsections and then enforce them.

LindsayDenton79 · 27/03/2021 15:09

AIBU should just be renamed General

Laiste · 27/03/2021 15:14

Will 'For Traffic' mean lots of people think it's all for problems on the roads though? Grin

Seriously though - i get your point completely, but i've been browsing AIBU daily for about 12 years now and i'd be sad to see a name change. Too much change these days for me ...

Laiste · 27/03/2021 15:18

and personally i don't give a shiny shite if the topic of each thread can be constructed into an actual AIBU question. I love the fact it's all sorts here.

There's chat for general chat which is less bolshie.

JaneJeffer · 27/03/2021 15:22

YANBU

SylHellais · 27/03/2021 16:02

Agree. The misuse of AIBU means a lot of other topics are tumbleweed.

Littlescottiedog · 27/03/2021 16:10

I agree. So much of it is threads about Trump (er, why in AIBU?!) and people posting threads that don't really have an AIBU like, currently, one about recommendations for spa weekends, skills your proud of and the like.

SoupDragon · 27/03/2021 16:59

When it was set up, many years ago, it was actually for "am I being unreasonable?" questions and was set up because asking AIBU became a popular thing to do. I suppose it was like the "ask me anything" topic in that respect - it was set up as a natural home for a new "trend" of threads. MNHQ moved everything that wasn't an AIBU out of the topic and into Chat where it generally belonged.

I just think it's evolved past that now.

Agreed. It’s annoying.
