We have developers putting up loads of properties on a previous school playing field one one side, and another developer putting up 12 more properties on the other side [previously site of a bungalow and a garden]. We still have our local wildlife enjoying our garden, but at 8am this morning the bedroom (and the rest of the house) was vibrating [one storey], due to a pile-driver operating 8ft from our house.
At first I chose to take out my irritation by standing by my living-room window, glaring outside angrily. Then I noticed someone having a break and smoking. If I had my window open his cigarette smoke would have been drifting into my living-room; but it wasn't because it's March, not May, and I usually have the central heating on 'til August. Otherwise I'd have been able to shout out, 'Oy, your smoke's coming through my window', but I don't like being cold; so the window stayed shut.
So now I felt I had to up my game. I actually left my house and thought at this point they'd notice me several feet away from them, say hello; and I could ask, 'What/why are you doing this stuff so close to my living room/bedrooms?' I knew they knew I was there, but they didn't acknowledge me at all. This was when it dawned on me I was no longer young, blonde, and Swedish.
So now I was wanting to call out, 'I'm on my property and you're not two metres away, so can you socially distance from me?' Unfortunately, they didn't come quite close enough for me to be able to do that.
The outcome was that I just aggressively sprayed weeds on my own path whilst ineffectually glaring at men who took no notice of me whatsoever because they didn't care, and were more concerned where their next pay cheque was coming from.
