More of a What should I do? New job, no transport and very early start time!

I had an interview earlier this week and when the interviewer asked about my transport situation I said (truthfully) that I have transport.

What I didn't mention is that my license has recently expired (CBT) and because of lockdown I have been unable to re take it yet. I have it booked for end of next week so after that I'll have the transport back. I didn't think it was necessary to go into detail about that yet as I didn't expect them to get back to me so quickly, if at all and I thought by the time I did hear back it wouldn't be an issue.

I've now been offered a job trial early next week which starts at 6am. Too early for the bus. When he said it I sort of panicked and said that's fine but now I have to figure out how to get there without any transport. It's too far for me to walk and I don't have a bicycle. I can't get a taxi as it's VERY expensive (£20-£25) and I just don't have the money.

My options are:

Ask a friend for a lift. I feel bad doing this but it's by far the easier option. I would 100% understand if they didn't want to.

Phone back and explain the situation and ask if I can come in a bit later. Absolutely earliest I could get there on the bus would be 7:30am.

I'm not sure if there's anything else I can do? I obviously want to make a good impression but that time makes it very awkward!

Do you have a friend who would loan you a bicycle for a week OP?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/03/2021 19:17

I’d ask for the lift first of all. If not I’d suck it up as a one off and get a taxi.

Ask for a lift or a loan of a bike.

Warsawa31 · 25/03/2021 19:19

As pp said see if you can bike it in for a week just in the meantime - you might come across as unreliable if you change your availability this early.

How far away is it ? That early in the morning traffic should be very quiet so it's safer if you worried about that

Mollypolly2610 · 25/03/2021 20:10

I can lend you a bike. In Scotland.

melononapear · 25/03/2021 20:13

Thank you @Mollypolly2610 that's a lovely offer but too far for me to go unfortunately 😂
