Disney+ cancelling subscriptions then charging more to renew

StinkyWizzleteets · 24/03/2021 11:57

I signed up to Disney+ early last year to make use of their £49.99 deal. I ensured it would auto Renew via PayPal because it’s kept us sane during lockdown and was basically survival.

I get an email today saying my subscription was cancelled, no notification about payment not being taken yesterday when it was due or any issues with taking payment and now Disney+ expect me to pay £79.99 as a new subscriber rather than the £59.99 I budgeted for. It may only be £20 extra but I don’t have it and I do grudge them doing this.

It seems loads of other people are in the same position and Disney are refusing to honour the renewal price they offered to people trying to renew their subscription today after auto renew failed yesterday.

I’m seeing on fb people unable to contact customer services or being hung up on if they ask to escalate the matter.

I think Disney should be honouring the £59.99 renewal price for those who are trying to do so today after auto renew yesterday failed. Aibu?

I should point out there was no notification of failure to auto renew yesterday so people weren’t given the option to amend the problem in time.

That's weird - mine just renewed automatically

Littlegoth · 24/03/2021 12:00

Mine renewed automatically today at the lower price

Viviennemary · 24/03/2021 12:00

It's cheeky. Don' t renew.

Zancah · 24/03/2021 12:01

I haven't had that experience.
I also got it at the £49.99 offer, I had an email a few weeks ago saying renewal was on X date and £59.99 was automatically taken from my account.

BobBobBobbing · 24/03/2021 12:02

I'm in the same boat! After waiting over an hour to speak to someone I will definitely NOT be renewing unless I get it at the discounted rate. I'm waiting to hear back from them at the moment. Im not holding my breath- it has been shockingly bad customer service.

Cadent · 24/03/2021 12:03

That is disgusting behaviour. Shit tactics. I would complain.

Ginfilledcats · 24/03/2021 12:05

How strange! Immune automatically renewed at 59.99 too. Strange you're and evidently other peoples haven't. Wonder why! Hope you get through and get it sorted

Alarae · 24/03/2021 12:05

Did you get an email at all to confirm your renewal was happening?

I think I got mine a few weeks ago?

Poor show from Disney though. I double checked mine was set to auto renew when I saw the price hikes from the end of Feb.

StinkyWizzleteets · 24/03/2021 12:05

@Cadent there’s nowhere to complain to. I’m one hour into an estimated 3 hour wait to speak to an online customer rep. It seems that they cut people off when they complain about this issue.

Do you have Twitter, OP? That will get their notice.

StinkyWizzleteets · 24/03/2021 12:06

@Alarae yes I got my email saying payment would
Be taken yesterday at £59.99 There was no notification prior to cancelling my subscription to say there has been an issue.it was set up
Through PayPal and nothing there has changed so it should have gone through without issue.

OP posts:
StinkyWizzleteets · 24/03/2021 12:07

@cadent - I don’t. Maybe I should go get an account there. Thanks.

That's not right, they sound like a bit of a Mickey Mouse organisation to be honest.

Cadent · 24/03/2021 12:13

Groan + Grin

StinkyWizzleteets · 24/03/2021 12:14

😂😂 groan

I had this today. My credit card expired so they cancelled the subscription. And have been charged 80quid.
I didnt get notification that they were going to renew either as I've been looking out for it.
I just assumed all the costs have gone up as everyone is increasing the fees (Netflix 😒)

herewegoagainst · 24/03/2021 12:22

Have you signed up to the Star content as well? I think that might be extra? Although signed-up is a bit of an overstatement as ours just bundled us through it so we could get on.
I'm in the middle of my 12 month subscription so haven't been charged anything ... yet.

Rankellior · 24/03/2021 12:28

We’re the same. Now in a 3 hour queue for customer services.

StinkyWizzleteets · 24/03/2021 12:30

Ok so I got my dates wrong. Auto renew should have been today not yesterday. Cancelling should have been done yesterday by me if I hadn’t wanted to renew . They have payment down as PayPal which is correct and nothing has changed, the money is there.

I had a look on Twitter as a user suggested and there are loads of people in the same boat. Nobody able to get through to customer services and those who do being told tough.

StinkyWizzleteets · 24/03/2021 12:31

@herewegoagainst the star content is the reason for the £20 price hike but existing members received an email in February saying they would renew at £59.99 up until august regardless.

OP posts:
CeibaTree · 24/03/2021 12:36

That's weird OP - I just got an email saying ours had automatically renewed for £59.99. Hope you can get it sorted OP, I'd resent having to pay an extra £20 too especially as Netflix have just upped their fees too.

msby · 24/03/2021 12:57

Just checked and thankfully ours renewed today at the £59.99. I must admit that I had logged in recently to make sure I had auto renew and current payment details in place. Not sure if that helped.

I hope you get the situation resolved speedily

SwimmingInToys · 24/03/2021 13:00

That's so annoying for you! Mine just renewed today at £59.99 with no problems.

Jenthefredo · 24/03/2021 13:02

Yep same here
