AIBU to be stressed about when we can get a bra fitting?!

I have now lost 3 of my favourite go-to bras in the latest lock-down.
Wires shooting everywhere.
I have measured myself and entered the results into numerous websites and been provided with a ridiculous array of bra sizes, from 40D to 44G.
Can we not have a standardised sizing?!
As my main problem is slidey-offy straps, I have tried (with my remaining 30 multi-sized bras) various options from extenders, racer-back clips and stretchy-things all the way to duct tape.
Am currently considering a glue gun.
First world problems, I know, but please save me from resorting to a burlap sack.
Any suggestions (helpful) welcome
x

Can you buy your favourite bras again? You must know the size and make?

bluebiro · 23/03/2021 21:41

Put your measurements into www.booborbust.com/ and go from there. Straps sliding off very much suggests you need a smaller back size (& bigger cup size)

YANBU. I have a similar thing. I had 8 of my favourite bra, the one sole one I'd found in recent years that was right. They're all disintegrating, and the company has discontinued it, so I can't buy more. I need a proper fitting desperately. I was just about ready to go and get fitted (bit of a trek to a city where I can get this done) just before lockdown last March, so now I'm really really desperate.

PanamaPattie not an option, I'm afraid - already checked online.
For the ones who's "bra name" have not been obliterated by the washing machine, they're not available

Yes please do this! I bet you’ve got a smaller back than you think.

GrumpyHoonMain · 23/03/2021 22:04

If they’re slipping off your shoulders go up cup sizes and down back sizes to get your fit. If you can look up brands on Amazon that have the prime delivery option as they have the easiest returns. I usually buy 6-7 different sizes, try them on, and return the ones that don’t fit.

shinyMe they either discontinue or change the name! I now have multiple bras with shredded elastic, over-stretched bits and illegible labels. Not to mention the huge change from the original colour...
I have no idea what I'm doing!
I just want to go into one of those magical shops where the assistants take one look at you and can immediately determine exactly what size and style will fit!

Google 'sloped shoulders'
Straps that slide off your shoulders aren't always due to the wrong size, I nearly suffocated myself going smaller on the band sizes until i realised sloping shoulders was a thing! If it is your shape, then only racer backs (in the correct size) are likely to work.

I went to Rigby and Peller once, many years ago. They were amazing. Little old lady looked at me, laughed and said "oh no duckie, that's all wrong. Two band sizes down, 3 cups up." Then she stuck her hand in the back of my bra and twisted the strap round her wrist twice, to show me how much too big it was. Then went off and brought me ONE bra to try (without having measured me or asked the size I was wearing)- and it fitted perfectly and was indeed 2 band sizes smaller and 3 cups bigger. My god, she was amazing. It was very expensive and I was poor, or I'd have bought dozens.

Actually that's it, once we can and I feel safe going to london, I'm going back!

Out of interest when do bra fittings resume, are they bundled in with non essential shops.

LoopyLockdown · 23/03/2021 22:37

I'm in bra fitting hell too. I've lost 4 stone since last autumn and my 40D bras do nothing for my incredible dissapearibg boobs. My boobs fall out of the extremely loose fitting bras by the time I've walked from the hallway to the kitchen.
I've tried my daughters 36C bras on but they're too big as well.
I've absolutely no idea where to start size wise as various online measurement vary so much.
In my case as well, my shape has changed so drastically I've no idea what style would now work best for me.

Lockdownbear · 23/03/2021 22:42

Gawd knows but it's up there with kids shoes. Pain in the bum to do online.

FurBabyMum02 · 23/03/2021 22:56

So glad to see others are having the same struggle! I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant and started at a 32dd, I went into a bigger size at about 10 weeks and am sure I need to go up again but have ordered every size and style I can think of only to find they are still not fitting right! I have literally no idea what size I am at this point but wouldn't be surprised if when we can finally get fitted it's something mad like a g cup. Luckily the ones I bought early on are wireless stretchy jobbies so although doing next to nothing at least they are not uncomfortable.

Waah · 24/03/2021 09:25

Boob or Bust, for sure. I've- done it since we've been in lockdown, and ordered online. I was wearing a 34DD with the +4 method that lots of shops use, but measured 30FF by their calculator. Thought it couldn't be right, but it's spot on. My boobs look so much better now, they are very well supported, and things like back and armpit fat are no more! There's a good fb group as well, where you can get them to check the fit of things ordered online. X
