To not jog....

Gin4thewin4 · 23/03/2021 19:34

I have really took onto walking lately.

I would love to jog but the fear of looking silly stops me from doing so....
I do run a little odd apparently.

So
Aibu to not jog because I look weird.
Or
Ainbu and other people avoid jogging for same reasons....

Care less about what randomers in the street think about you and more about yourself. Join a running club when they open again, and they will help you fix anything funny about your gait.

Onedropbeat · 23/03/2021 19:38

I run like Pheobe from friends

People can laugh if they want to

I probably would

DoubleHelix79 · 23/03/2021 19:40

People notice us far less than we might imagine, and if they do they'll probably forget all about us 5 minutes later. I say go jogging and enjoy it!

iloverock · 23/03/2021 19:44

Join a club? Is there a c25k course running near you?
Honestly no one will care or notice. Go for it.

Marvelwife123 · 23/03/2021 19:44

Just run fast enough that they won’t see you for very long? 🤣🤣 in all seriousness go for it, who cares as long as you enjoy it

Dentistlakes · 23/03/2021 19:45

Everyone runs/jogs differently. Chances are people won’t even notice you unless you’re running like Phoebe out of Friends! Another option would be to go out really early. That’s what I did when I started and felt a bit self conscious.

midgedude · 23/03/2021 19:46

We could start a funny jogs club ?

Sexnotgender · 23/03/2021 19:46

Just do it! I run (when I’m not 9 months pregnant 😂) and I’m not a natural runner. Couldn’t care less what anyone thinks.

Annalou30 · 23/03/2021 19:46

Jog! No one else cares! Lots of people have an interesting gait, many are completely unaware (I am!) Just run and enjoy it!

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 23/03/2021 19:47

I dont give a flying twat about what people think when I run. I love keep fit and slim. That's what matters.

Just go for OP, who cares if you run like linford bastard Christie Phoebe Buffet. Do it for you xx

Tejutas · 23/03/2021 20:03

I run oddly - had a lot of comments at school and it took me decades to get up the confidence to run in public as an adult.

My first run I chose early on a New Years' Day as I knew no-one would be about. Grin I've run loads in the years since then, no-one has ever stared at me or said anything.

Gin4thewin4 · 23/03/2021 20:04

I know I should just go for it but I just struggle with feeling embarrassed. Even when out walking I get a bit paranoid that I am walking funny (sometimes my feet tend to edge inwards slightly.)
I am waaaay over thinking it but it does hold me back a little. Where I live is mostly main road so there a lot of cars driving by. I sound so superficial but its a genuine insecurity for some reason Hmm

@Gin4thewin4 what’s your main concern that someone might shout something or just what others are thinking? Does overthinking and what others think of affect other areas of your life?

DuesToTheDirt · 23/03/2021 20:32

No one cares. I rasp like a steam train when I'm running, but so what?

BTW, DH, who is a serious runner, says there is no such thing as "jogging", it's all running - because running is hard and the word "jogging" diminishes the effort you're making.

islockdownoveryet · 23/03/2021 20:34

Just go for it if you’re self conscious then run in park / field somewhere cars aren’t and probably other joggers/ runners .
Honestly no one cares that you look funny and I’m sure you don’t btw .

YouKilledOinker · 23/03/2021 20:47

I ran really awkwardly and running wasn't enjoyable at all.
Eventually, I went to a running shop and had my gait recorded. Turns out I'm flat footed! They recommended trainers and it's soooo much better now.
I appreciate that you can't do that just now but once you can, it might change your feelings about it.
I ALMOST enjoy running now Grin

Mintjulia · 23/03/2021 21:00

Honestly op, no-one will take any notice. My neighbours see me wheezing, lobster faced, around my village and don't bat an eyelid. Grin
