Freezer broken. I could cry.

We have been keeping our freezer full lately just in case we catch COVID and can’t get a delivery. We figure at least we’d have a dinner we could eat for a week or so. Just gone to get food out and it’s all thawed. It’s cold but not frozen. Not sure if it’s broken or if I just didn’t shut the door properly yesterday. If it’s still working and I just didn’t shut the door properly what can I put back to re freeze? Veg? Potato products like waffles? I know ice cream will have to be thrown either way. What about sausage rolls? Onion rings? Or does it all need to be thrown 😢

This happened to me before and I re froze it. We was fine but I don't think you're supposed to do that.

MissConductUS · 23/03/2021 18:35

If things stayed at least cold, refreeze them.

SpringSunshineandTulips · 23/03/2021 18:37

Most things are cold but fridge cold I guess. I was able to squash a sausage roll so I guess they aren’t too cold. 😢

Oh no, I've done that a couple of times. Meat you can cook then refreeze, ice-cream I threw, everything else I just left in the freezer.

Potpourriandpennysweets · 23/03/2021 18:43

This happened to me and I threw the prawns, otherwise we ate everything with no issues.

Do you have freezer contents as part of your home insurance? Depending on how much was in your freezer it might be an option

DimidDavilby · 23/03/2021 18:45

It will be fine. Food hygiene regs state that if food remains under 3 degrees, like fridge cold, it can be refrozen.

SpringSunshineandTulips · 23/03/2021 18:49

We have the insurance but it’s orobably not worth claiming. I think I will
Chuck ice cream and try and cook up the meat. The other stuff I will leave. That’s if the freezer isn’t broken and I just left the door ajar. If it’s broken then we will need a new one.

She laughed!!

You can cook and eat it fine if it’s still cold even if it’s not suitable to refreeze.
