Can someone advise me as to whether the furlough scheme should be put in writing to an employee explaining how it works from their employer if they are going to be furloughed . I cannot find the specific answer to this on google.

when I was furloughed I had to sign something to say I consented. When dh is furloughed (3rd bloody time) he has to consent online.

We both got letters explaining it.

The whole scheme doesn't have to be set out in writing, but if your employer does furlough you then the agreement should be in writing.

Within the CJRS regulations there are some sections that tell employers that the employee is only furloughed if:

  • The employee has agreed to cease all work relating to their contract
  • That agreement clearly sets out the terms of the furlough
and
  • That agreement is made in writing or confirmed in writing (email is accepted).

Employers are also advised to retain the written agreement until at least June 2025. If your employer/HR department aren't sure where to find the information, point them towards the CJRS Direction section 6.7.

Thank you . The person involved isn’t on MN so I thought this would be a good place to ask on his behalf .

Yes they should be informed that they will receive 80% or whatever of their pay in writing

Thank you for the replies. He has said that people are now on furlough and have received absolutely no notification from their company!! Apart from the manager telling him he was furloughed. I just feel uncomfortable that he has absolutely nothing in writing!!
