Ketchup on everything

I have two fussy eaters, 7 and 4. Somehow it’s ended up that they have ketchup at every meal. Doesn’t matter what I serve up, they want to smother it in ketchup.

I absolutely hate the stuff and it really annoys me that I make the effort to cook a range of nutritious and tasty meals and they all get covered in vile red gloop. Then half of it gets left and it has to go in the bin because it’s doused in .

Should I put my foot down and stop them having ketchup regularly? Or just let it go - mealtimes are hard work without making it a battle over the dreaded dip.

What do you think?

YABU - pick your battles, let them have ketchup
YANBU - ban the Devil’s condiment

When we are allowed into IKEA. Again I would be snaffling some of their little ketchup containers...........

Like I say, @BobBobBobbin I’m almost 40 - so I give zero fucks about the judgment of people close to me on the ketchup issue. We’re really into negative fucks when it comes to the level I care about complete strangers on the internet judging my ketchup habit.

Just a word of warning folks.

Tomato ketchup contains a very powerful substance called lycopene. It has health giving opportunities, particularly for men with regards to prevention of heart disease, prostate and testicular diseases. However it is important that when attempting to have 'Ketchup with Everything' that men are not encouraged to smear it all over their balls.

It does not work externally and can be a bit of a bugger to remove the inevitable stains from pure cotton sheets.

I just wanted to add a word of wisdom.

re what @BobBobBobbin and @mrurddhasabitpart say, I couldn't give a flying fuck what they think, and I doubt any one else who loves their ketchup cares either.

I don't have ketchup on EVERYthing, but I do like it now and again, especially on a fish finger sandwich, and with chips and wedges... And I love it with poached eggs on toast, and with cheese on toast.

@mrurddhasabitpart

I judge adults who eat ketchup with everything. How do you go out for a meal with these people without embarrassment?

WTAF? Confused Are you actually taking the piss? If anyone I knew was 'embarrassed' of me because I wanted ketchup on a meal out, that would be the last time I'd go out with them. I'd tell them to get fucked.

Moreover, they often offer condiments anyway. Do you also judge people so snarkily if they want mint sauce, mustard, cranberry sauce, piccalilli, chutney, pickle?

Ewwwww, you'd be out of my friendship group before you could say 'FOOD SNOB!' Hmm

YonderTweek · 21/03/2021 20:17

Ketchup is the fucking king of condiments. I love the stuff and eat it often. Luckily food snobs don't have to watch and judge me because I rarely eat out, although if they did I wouldn't really care. I'd be too busy enjoying my delicious red meal. Grin

I also don't have a problem with kids having ketchup, but I might keep an eye on quantities due to sugar/salt content.

BobBobBobbin · 21/03/2021 20:27

I’m not expecting anyone to give any fucks about me judging their ketchup habit!

(Liking a range of condiments on different foods is totally different to ketchup on everything though!)

Have you tried offering other condiments, tartar sauce, horseradish, chutneys, mayo etc just to break the habit whilst still having something to dip things in?
