Ok so I’ve been on furlough since January, due back on April 1st, but popped in to drop some things off today. I’m one of 8 members of staff (everyone else is a volunteer) and I was really shocked today to see they have refurbished the toilets and not sure if AIBU to be quite upset. Sounds bizarre but bear with me.
Work for a charity, 300+ volunteers, ratio of men to women 5/1. Building is a very large old 3 storey factory/ warehouse.
Ground floor - both off a walkway which has people working or walking by constantly right outside.
Men’s Toilets, door to enter, 3 urinals and 3 cubicles all with doors.
Ladies Toilets, door to enter, disabled single loo no cubicle. I always feel very self conscious and literally can’t have more than a wee in there, knowing there are people right outside. And yes you can hear people peeing in there. So I’ve always gone upstairs if I have my period or need a poo.
1st floor - This is what has been refurbished.
Men’s Toilets. Really large room. Corridor been created so very private, 2 cubicles, 3 urinals, 3 sinks. Still loads of room in there.
Ladies Toilets. Much smaller room, did have 2 cubicles and 2 sinks, now just rickety single door in, open to one toilet, one sink etc. Again this is off from an open walkway with blokes working at a bench right next to it.
This is a nightmare for me. However ridiculous it sounds I get stage fright having a shit in public places (in toilets obviously). It feels so exposed and crazy to me they didn’t convert the men’s instead of the ladies.
Am I being stupid ? It’s made me feel really weird, because the ladies have no privacy now. We currently only have one disabled volunteer, and I completely get we need to have the correct facilities going forward. We do have a lift no access downstairs was available already.
I know this is a small problem in the scheme of things but it’s made me feel so uncomfortable 
. 2 blokes made this decision and no one was forewarned about this. Not sure complaining will do any good as it’s already done but should I say something ? Not overly looking forward to having a conversation with my boss about privacy and having a shit !!!
