Low Pappa A

Hi ladies, would love some assurance as had a phone call last night I was not expecting! I am high risk for down syndrome with a 1 in 143 chance. Also I have low Pappa-A meaning I will need 2 additional scans and to take Aspirin daily to help my placenta function properly. Feel a mix of faith I will make it through this stronger and totally overwhelmed at the possible scenarios. Anyone else been in this position? Any positive stories would be welcome!! Thanks in advance! 💖

I had low Pap A for one of my pregnancies. There were no problems at all and my baby was no smaller than any of my others.

Also, at 1 in 143, you're only just over the border that makes you high risk. Anything over 1 in 150 is considered low risk. The odds are still very much in your favour. Try not to worry! Low Pap a seems a fairly common issue. You just get extra monitoring which is very reassuring.

I already have 2 children after 8 years of infertility, 2 miscarriages and failed IVF which are the most beautiful blessings! My Daughters pregnancy went super smoothly, my Sons did too. Traumatic birth though and months following as he was in hospital for 34 days and formally diagnosed with hypotonia (floppy baby syndrome) which thank God he has outgrown before his 1st birthday! Such a miracle! This was a surprise baby! Only had my Son last year. x

Thank you so much for your quick reply SomethingSnappy! So appreciated. Am actually seeking support for anxiety issues so your post has been extremely helpful to receive.

@Somethingsnappy
Hello,
I just found your post. I got my results yesterday and my odds of Dow’s are even higher than yours 1:67 ( I will be 40 later this year), my pappa came back at 0.36. I am absolutely petrified about all of this, my doctor did not say anything about low pappa just asked me to do NIPT test to check for Down syndrome odds properly as apparently the simple blood test I had done is nothing really very accurate. I was especially shocked about the results as I genetically tested my embryos before transfer and it was all good, my scans are showing a healthy baby, nuchal translucency was at 1.8 which is ok? I am so worried that I will not be able to enjoy my pregnancy :( How are you getting on?
