I want a pretty basic laptop - need to be able to use word, excel, PowerPoint, and the internet.

I am not tech savvy at all.

Really not looking for anything fancy, I will use it to write occasional essays, make tables so I can tick off buying people’s Christmas gifts etc.

Pref under £500.

Last bought a computer of any kind in the year 2002, and am feeling lost!

Any idea on screen size or whether you need it to be particularly light / portable?
From £400 upwards you will typically get a 15" screen, 8GB ram and 256GB SSD hard drive. I would have that as your minimum kind of spec. If you can find something with 16GB ram and a 512GB hard drive that would be a worthwhile upgrade, especially if you want to store an average amount of photos, videos or music. Lenovo, Dell etc are generally OK.

@bungaloid - thanks for replying.

I don’t think I need it to be portable really, not like I can go anywhere anyway at the moment! Hadn’t really thought about screen size.

I will have a look at Lenovo and Dell thank you :)
