MIL keeps giving me donuts

Bipitybopityboop · 16/03/2021 20:04

They are home made mini donuts, and sometimes they are perfect.
The rest of the time the texture and flavour is not quite right.

She gives so many, they last days. No-one but I will eat them. I manage 3 or maybe 4.

Most get thrown away.

Do I say something or do I just happily accept them then throw them away once she has gone?

I have also been lying to her saying they are lovely and I finished them.

Well if it's happened a few times and you have accepted them and said they are nice then I think you're in for long haul 😂🙈 sure the birds will enjoy them!

FortunesFave · 16/03/2021 20:07

I'd keep taking them because it's obviously giving her pleasure. But then...it's such a waste of ingredients isn't it?

Could you tell her you're going on a diet?

Curiosity101 · 16/03/2021 20:08

I'd make up a white lie and let her know you're all wanting to eat healthier so as much as you appreciate the thought you really need less sweet treats/snacks in the house.

I would love a MIL who gave me donuts! Maybe tell her that you love them, but could she just send a tiny portion to you, or slightly less often?

Bipitybopityboop · 16/03/2021 20:10

I felt so guilty for the waste of food as I slid them into the bin last night.

I also pictured her standing in her kitchen merrily mixing the dough and looking forward to gifting them to me. That made me feel awful too.

The diet/healthy eating ideas are brilliant.

I agree with the diet thing.

FortunesFave · 16/03/2021 20:12

Unless she's watching you bin them, she has no idea...

Nydj · 16/03/2021 20:12

Tell her they are so lovely that you are worried about your health after eating so many so need her to keep them away from you other than on special occasions like Christmas and Easter.

Classic narc, go NC.

sleepyhead1980 · 16/03/2021 20:43

My MIl does this too with tray bakes. Literally makes so much I could start my own shop. They mostly get binned. I think she has some kind of boredom/obsession with making them. It's not about me it's about her. I just leave her to it

Dita73 · 16/03/2021 20:44

Send them to me!

EssexLioness · 16/03/2021 20:52

Donuts freeze really well for up to 3 months

NormanStangerson · 16/03/2021 21:20

Initially confusion as I thought doughnuts was a euphemism.

Now I know it isn’t, why is the poor woman on a mad doughnut-making binge? Is she stuck in some sort of time loop of batter making and doughnut frying? No, she can’t be. They’d all be the same if she was....🤔

I think the healthy eating plan is a good one. But maybe like up something she can do with her hands, a cross stitch perhaps, I imagine she’ll be lost without the doughnuts.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 16/03/2021 21:22

I have a nearly Dil who makes me fudge. I bloody love it. But when I see it I think Nooo not again. Then I eat the lot. My waistline doesn't love her, but I do.
I'd ask her to send less, tell her a six pack is enough to last as you can't eat that many without feeling sick from eating too much.
