AIBU to find friends who do public posts annoying..(stay with me).... I take seriously my privacy and my kids privacy. I have a few friends who post a question and have changed their privacy from friends to public for this one post. Unbeknownst to me, my response is now public to the whole world when I think I’m replying to a group of say 100 people (most of whom I know personally).

AIBU to think people shouldn’t switch to public and then try to elicit responses from you.

YABU to use Facebook at all. It is not a force for good.

Fair play. But assuming I’m already in the thrall...Grin

Just check the symbol first. For some things, public can provide better answer because normally it's just friends.

If posts has a planet, it's public.

As long as your profile is properly locked, nothing happens anyway.

littlepattilou · 16/03/2021 12:53

Get ready for a raft of the tedious and condescending 'does anyone still use facebook?' type comments?

Yes. Nearly 3 BILLION people worldwide still use it.

Oh and @Parentpower20 YABU sorry. If you post a message on someone ELSE's public post, then of course your post will be seen by anyone and everyone. Only way to avoid it is to not post on anyone else's page!

littlepattilou · 16/03/2021 12:53

Superfluous question mark after 'comments!' Sorry.

sammylady37 · 16/03/2021 12:54

Never put anything on Facebook that you wouldn’t want everyone to see...

SisterAgatha · 16/03/2021 12:55

You can see that it’s public before you comment tho?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/03/2021 12:56

And I can absolutely see why. It's invaluable for us away from families. Plus my mate keeps sharing her gish she is obessed with and I can't stop laughing about their names (based on one joke so they are very funny, especially for fish. Think Hugo the fish? Adorable) and how excited she is about them. But in a good way, not nasty laughing. Just the "aww they are indeed adorable!" Way
Small things like this keep someone's sanity, don't they😁

@SisterAgatha

I know, it just catches me out when it’s someone who normally locks down their profile.

This, exactly.
WiddlinDiddlin · 16/03/2021 17:10

Almost all my posts are public, if you don't want your response to my post to be public, its up to you to check, surely. Thats your issue, your deal, not mine.

I post as if all posts are public anyway, to do otherwise is very silly.

You’re not taking your profile seriously if you can’t take 2 secs to check whether you’re posting NG publicly or not. Public posts have been around for years.

This onus is on you.

Parentpower20 · 16/03/2021 18:13

Okay, I am hearing the message - everyone else either isn’t bothered or checks every time.
I shall be quietly and unreasonably peeved by myself in a corner. Perhaps with some Wine
