The denial of misogyny

Predictably, if you look at DM most popular comment on the “violence at the vigil” last night, it is an utter condemnation of the women and defence of the police along the lines of “it’s lockdown, it was a stupid thing to do, they police were only doing what they have to do - poor police and silly women”

Then compare that to the most popular comment when there was an anti lockdown protest in December. I’m not posting screenshots as I think that’s against the rules however if I paraphrase, it was “people were defying the implementation of a lockdown and defending their human rights and democratic freedoms”

If people really don’t see how this highlights the utter denial of the problem we have with misogyny then I don’t know what does?

I don’t want to post links or screenshots as I think that’s against rules but I used the following search terms “ anti lockdown protest london” as well as paper in question and the second link that came up for me contained the second comment. The first comment is obviously live on that despicable site now.

I’m just so fed up of being told that there’s no sexism, no misogyny and that were damaging the poor men by constantly trying to raise the issue.

100% agreed.

100%

Thank you. It’s so utterly infuriating as they completely deny there’s a problem, whilst actively demonstrating what the problem is. I know the answer is not to look at the DM, but they are SO influential it’s terrifying.

100% agree. A few people on this website won't agree, and they refuse to acknowledge it, with this 'what about da poor menz' attitude! Hmm

It's unfathomable that some people try and make out that men have as much shit to deal with in life, as bad as women. I can't believe some of the stuff I have read on here this past 2 or 3 days.

It's disgusting and depressing, and I refuse to engage with this small handful of misogynistic posters on mumsnet now. I can't believe anyone actually thinks this way. I don't know a SINGLE woman in real life who thinks this way.

I completely agree.

I've been banging the same drum for years though and it gets quite exhausting.

In the end I actually find it so disturbing I find it easier to try to ignore it.

YANBU. Those same men will be angry when it’s their daughters who suffer from sexism and those same women will be posting on MN for advice when their husbands do fuck all.

YANBU. The NAMALTery and whataboutery are really doing my head in, too.

Well yes and the Met police are going to fine the organisers of the vigil but not the organisers of BLM when both were during lockdown.

FaceyRomford · 14/03/2021 22:59

At the risk of going slightly off topic, surely there are enough female police officers in the Met to have provided an all-female detachment to have policed the vigil?

Quarks69 · 14/03/2021 23:02

Did you see the photos of the aggressive crowd members attacking the police, who were men. The infiltration of Those men into women’s fight, is not helping!

MistressoftheDarkSide · 14/03/2021 23:04

Yep. I agree .Spent most of yesterday trying to politely explain this on threads that went over 1000 posts. Spectacularly missing the point has been elevated to an Olympic sport sometimes.
