Flat above me SO noisy!

My first weekend in this place - upstairs flat have had banging music and loud friends round since 6pm.
My kids are managing to sleep though goodness knows how.
Tearing my hair out. But no idea how to approach them. I know it should be as simple as 'please can you keep the noise down' but I've never ever met them, and am in fear of antagonising them.
Felt so good to leave the marital home finally. Going through a separation I was so pleased to have gotten out...now I can't wait until my 6 month tenancy is up! Help please!

Ah neighbour noise is so annoying.

I think the best thing to do in these situations is to go and knock, approach head on. You don’t have to be aggressive or antagonistic, just nicely explain you know you haven’t met yet but you live downstairs - could they please turn the music down a bit as you have kids sleeping downstairs which is disturbing them.

Hopefully they didn’t realise and will turn it down. But if they become antagonistic or rude then see if your council has an anti social out of hours noise line and report it to them.

I wouldn’t leave a note or anything as it might be misinterpreted - face to face is the best way to get your tone across even though it’s scary.

In the mean time have you got any earphones/earplugs you can use? We used to have a neighbour who would wake up at 3am to go the loo, turn the telly on and then somehow fall asleep again with it blaring (god knows how!). It was so loud we’d hear it through the walls and I could tell you which advert was playing. So I used to put earphones in and play white noise or rain sounds on my phone, it blocked out the noise and helped me drift off.

Hopefully it’s a one off party. Pray it is. Noisy neighbours are the worst..so stressful.
