AIBU to feel Broken

This week has broken me.

I am a teacher at a secondary school and the suffering that I have witnessed and heard about this week that these poor kids have been through over the last year has left me feeling broken today. I literally can’t stop crying. I can’t make any of them feel better. I’m just a bystander to their pain.

AIBU to just want to walk away from it all before it breaks me completely?

I know I can’t but right now I really want to.

Bearing witness is very important.
It is healing for others.

Keeping yourself well so you can do your job and live your life is also very important.

What support do you have in your own life that you can use now?

I phoned a friend earlier but a lot of the stuff is confidential so I can’t really discuss it. My DH is a good listener but doesn’t really know what to say.

It just seems like a never ending list of children who had lost loved ones, had problems with their home life and I just need it out of my brain.

You are exactly who can help improve some aspect of their education and possibly life. They are all the better for having you there now.

I remember so vividly my secondary school teachers who made a positive impact on me. With their dedication, expertise and especially their compassion. I think about a couple of them quite regularly, they definitely made my life better in a small yet important way. I'll always remember them. Having supportive teachers is so important right now!! You're an asset don't walk away

Thanks. Having a long cry has helped a bit I think. And I’m knackered. Going to try and get some sleep that might help a bit.

Give yourself some special time this weekend, being there for your students when they are in school is commendable however you need to be able to switch off for the weekend or you will have nothing left for you or your family. Life is hard but its what you learn from it to take you to the next step. I tell slot of my customers I bump into while I am out with the dog that we have to take on a mentality that was taken on during the war to get through this, compassion and understanding along with building a hard shell to deal with a lot.
The human mind is amazing at giving us the tools to deal with alot even when we think we can't take anymore it will get us through in the end. Have faith believe in yourself you can be the best
