PCTA........how to feel about this comment.......

Hi! So, a parent at school approached me about being on the PCTA. Apparently a lot of the people are leaving as they’ve been doing the roles for some years.
This parent said to me that she wants the PCTA to be more (in her words) ‘pro-black’. Also said she wants to ‘get rid of the minions’
Firstly, the school is very diverse with kids from all ethnicities, religions and backgrounds.
Secondly, I'm unsure as to what ‘pro-black’, 'pro-white' or pro-anything else means here. As far as I’m aware, the PCTA raise funds for the school for whichever area they need help with. Obviously liasing with the school on various funds that need raising.

I guess for me it just seemed an unusual thing to say.
Any thoughts?? Thanks

Is it something you'd be interested in? If so, I'd just ask the parent for a chat about it. There would be nothing wrong with asking the questions you've asked here.

I am class rep at present but don't have time for pcta.

I wouldn't worry about it in that case, just thank her for asking and wish her luck.

Probably a tone deaf way of saying that they would like the group to better represent the demographic of the school.
That might change the nature of the events they hold to raise funds, make them appealing to a wider range of parents/kids and increase the fundraising.
Also maybe it's been dominated by a clique and they would like some new people to breathe new life into it.

But if you don't fancy it then you shouldn't feel obligated.

I’m on our school’s PTA (I presume that’s the same as PCTA?) and we fundraise to provide our pupils with the best opportunities and facilities as possible - period. I’d think her comments were very odd and it sounds like she’s on a mission of her own that’s not compatible with the aims of any PTA I’ve heard of.

These are my thoughts too. At present the pcta is represented by a range of people so she can’t mean this.
I feel she is on a mission of her own and this is not to do with the pcta.

I should say also that this lady has had many arguments with many people and I’m not sure she is the right person to be taking on this role. But do I say what I feel to anyone?
