Playing music at home

If you and your partner are at home together in the same room, if one of you decides you want to put music on would you just put it on, or would you check in with other person first?

Depends what the other person is doing

minniemoocher · 10/03/2021 10:02

Wouldn't normally ask unless they were working

Livpool · 10/03/2021 10:03

I wouldn't think to ask. I wfh and always have the radio on

TheQueef · 10/03/2021 10:05

Wouldn't ask unless it was obvious they needed quiet.

Would always check. We both get very bothered/distracted by noise and have strong musical opinions. I would just be a quick "hey I'm going to put on some megadeath/vivaldi/cole porter, that ok?"

We don't have the same taste in music and so rarely have it on in the house. I have music on in the background while I'm working sometimes, but we work in separate rooms so not an issue. I'm not really that into music though, I'd prefer to listen to an audiobook if I was pottering around doing household bits.

We'd both check. Just a politeness reflex really. At most the other one will say "oh I was about to put the TV on" and then whoever wanted to listen to music would grab headphones.
