To think I have hit the midlife weight loss issue phase

I am 47, nearly 48. I am not dramatically overweight but could definitely do with losing half a stone/ a stone from a BMI perspective (5ft7.5 and 11 stone 12) - until the pandemic I was 11 stone my whole life pretty much.

Nothing is working though- I do a bit of fasting (5:2/ fast800), don’t drink, eat a mostly plant based diet bar eggs (I am a lifelong veggie) and exercise 3/4 times a week - mix of running, Joe wicks, bit of stuff with weights, lots of walking. I try to eat lots of protein & healthy carbs, don’t eat much sugar or snacks.

Yet my weight has been the same for months now - not a single pound lost. Finding it really frustrating. I know I shouldn’t fixate in weight as I am healthy & fit but i just feel heavy- I have been 11 stone my whole life until the pandemic 🤪

Aibu to blame my age & hormones?

I hear you!
I've been overweight most of my life. Last year i finally lost 3 stone which I'm delighted about. But I've been trying to lose the final 7 pounds for the past six months and it's just not going anywhere. I've tried so many different things. I'm putting it down to my age - I'm 45.

I used myfitnesspal years ago to lose weight. You can calculate how much energy you burn per day and then you can set yourself a calorie goal per day. You log in everything you have to eat and any exercise you do. I just did it till I had shifted a stone and have never gone back but have never put the weight back on as it helped me get into good habits.

@Streats yea I use nutracheck to track everything too and even really keeping an eye on everything isn’t helping - I use it to track my macros too so I know I get a balance. Nothing 😩

I hear you OP. I'm the same. Just turned 48. Can't shift it. Been in 1200 calories pd and walking 10k+ steps a day. In the past would've been enough for me to loose a pound or more a week. Fed up.

BigPaperBag · 10/03/2021 08:42

I’m younger than you (37) but having the exact same issue. I’ve virtually given up snacking, just a couple of biscuits a week. I walk 2-3 times a week (could do more I guess) and eat around 1500 calories a day. My weight has just stubbornly stuck at around 10st 4 or 5lbs for months. So annoying!

How many cals are you eating per day?

For me I only lose on 1400 (weeps)

Todayissunny · 10/03/2021 16:43

I'm in the same situation. I've started doing myfitnesspal and I am shocked at how many calories I was eating. I would have estimated half. I'm very careful about what I eat at the moment and I am losing weight.

Same!

Also late 40s and can't shift excess pounds anymore. If I do lose a couple of pounds then a glass of wine or a biscuit later and it's straight back on. I eat less than I used to when I was just under 9 stone so definitely age related. Hoping it might budge once I can get back to the gym though, although starting to care less which is the upside of being older!

How stressful is your life? How’s your sleep?

After 2 years of stubborn weight gain and plateau I am finally losing. It could be that my body has just moved on but I think it’s because I’ve left my stressful job. An 8-hour eating window, no snacking and no sugar is now working well for me.
