Really struggling with this feeling I’m not done with babies.

We have a big enough house but would need a new car. I do have age on my side just I’m 33/34. Two older children are girl and boy ( so not just trying for a certain sex). We can afford it but it’s all the extra cost I think about that puts me off, if we go on holiday it’s 1k per person say that’s 4K vs 5k etc

I’m thinking about environmental impact too, should we have more than 2 children in general?

But I keep coming back to I would love another child (I’m not the biggest fan of the baby stage).

I worry if I have enough attention and love to spread round 3. But we would have 3/4 age gaps between all kids so they would be at preschool / school.

Anyone else really over think this? Did you know you were done?

why not look into fostering? avoids the baby stage and takes some of the financial sting out, and you'd be doing a good thing too.

Pokerface12 · 08/03/2021 17:19

@suspiria777 I would definitely do it but OH isn’t keen so think it’s off the table

I have the same debate too. I'm totally not done with 2 😭

babychange12 · 08/03/2021 17:23

Dh is Adamant 2 is enough but I'm not so sure. I'm almost tempted to find someone else just so I can have another lol

We debated for ages whether to have a third. From a practicality and cost point of view it’s a really bad idea so was a real heart versus head thing. I did go on to have an accidental third baby which is probably the best way as I don’t think it would have happened if planned! I absolutely love having three but it is very expensive for stuff like holidays and when they all need school shoes at once. I got a multimac car seat so didn’t need a new car.

Pokerface12 · 08/03/2021 18:32

@Toomuchleopard this is exactly it, it is a heart vs head situation. I almost wish for a an accident so neither of us have got to actually decide 😂🤣

Same situation here. Head says there is no good reason to. Heart would really like a third. DH would love a third but says it is up to me.

VeganVeal · 08/03/2021 18:53

I thought I wanted a third, tried for a bit but no luck. DH bought me a puppy instead!!!

Soooooooo glad we didnt have a third. They get so much harder as they get older, I'd have never managed with 3 teenagers.
And you think they are expensive as small kids, just wait till its phones, cars, uni, stuff for their first house etc.
Buying three pairs of school shoes is small change!!!

Just had my third. It’s wonderful and I love it, but... the cons include holidays being problematic as hotels don’t allow more than 4 in a room, so we will have to go to apartments when we can travel. Car cost went up, but you can buy a special seat for 3 kids (wish I’d known that!). Plus, not great for the environment or your finances.

Oh, and I still don’t feel ‘done’ Grin not sure I can afford a fourth though...

Best of luck with whatever you decide x

Pokerface12 · 08/03/2021 19:00

@VeganVeal that’s the plan to maybe get a dog instead!
