Plasma pen procedure given wrong advice???

Hi,

I went in for a plasma pen procedure on face. The advice I was given was to not wash face for 3 days (I know - horrible!) and to use a suncream with BB on the area every 3 hours for the first 3 days and then 3 times a day after. The specialist said the BB was very important to avoid hyperpigmentation.

Now this just doesn't seem hygienic to me at all! Putting BB cream (like a foundation) on a wound, on top of each other without washing face.

Does this make sense to anyone? Am I being unreasonable to question this advice. (I live abroad btw - no lockdown here)

That certainly isn't what I'd have advised.

There are certainly differences of opinion on "dry healing", but I don't believe that applying multiple layers of suncream is considered a good idea by anyone.

My advice would have been to keep the area scrupulously clean using either a special cleanser we provide to avoid infection (NOT a normal cleanser) or distilled water and sterile gauze and not to put anything else on your skin for 2-3 days.

Ideally you would stay inside.

After day 2 or 3 (depending on how your skin felt and appeared) you should start applying a moisturising cream that contains growth hormones. This speeds up healing and softens the scabs so that they come away more easily.

IF you had to go outside during this time, you would need to apply SPF, but then make sure that all of the product is off of your skin once back home being really careful not to cause any of the scabs to fall off prematurely.

The key points in ensuring that you don't have an adverse reaction to the treatment, is to keep the skin clean and to allow the scabs to fall off naturally.
