How do I ask them to be quiet

Downstairs flatmates moved in.

They have sex so loudly I can’t sleep. It’s so uncomfortable to be subjected to. Then they’re slamming doors what feels like all night. I’ve no idea if they realise I may as well be in the room with them.

How do I ask them to keep it down without it being awkward/them ignoring me?

Slide an anonymous note under their door?

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 07/03/2021 11:10

Note through the door?

Holly60 · 07/03/2021 11:11

Say ‘you two had fun last night then? Haha. We have thin walls here - just so you are aware’ with a big grin

Lemmeout · 07/03/2021 11:13

Note through door. Sounds like you two had fun last night. Any chance you can have sex a little bit a quieter Grin.

Are they in a different flat or the same flat as you?

If different flat I’d knock the door and tell them the whole building can hear them shagging. If same flat I’d barge in and tell them to shut the fuck up.

Ohdobequiet · 07/03/2021 11:15

Different apartment. There are four apartments in the building. I’m the one above them so they’ll definitely know the note is me 🙈

Can you not go old school and bang on the floor with a stick when they get loud?

UhtredRagnarson · 07/03/2021 11:18

Who cares if they know it’s from you, you know it’s them shagging and they don’t seem concerned about that!

Something like this? They might not be able to hear you so might not know you can hear them.

A friend of mine was kept awake one balmy summer night (so all the windows in the block of flats were open) by his new neighbours celebrating their new home and relationship rather riotously. He waited until the last ecstatic cry had finished, then called out, quite quietly to make the point that walls were thin, "Nice one!"
As he went out to his car the next morning, the new neighbours scuttled past with eyes fixed firmly on the ground; they were quieter after that.

Clap when they finish 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

LunaHeather · 07/03/2021 11:20

Leave a note saying "do you need to slam doors all night".

They'll know you can hear the rest.

Brilliant idea!

We had neighbours upstairs who had loud sex at 5am on weekends; to the extent that it woke us up. I tried banging on the ceiling but I don’t think they could hear us! In the end I put a note through the door saying there was a lot of banging at 5am waking us up and could they stop whatever was causing it.

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 07/03/2021 11:22

“I know you won’t have realised but there is no sound insulation between our floors. Could you try to keep the noise down after 10.00pm? Especially in the bedroom which is just below mine.

Sorry & thanks,
Realname, Flat X”

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 07/03/2021 11:24

I only mention the bedroom because if someone complained about me I’d assume, TV/ music/ clattering around. You might as well make it clear in one go.

MamaMeAh · 07/03/2021 11:24

I think you need to own it
Just go and tell them that every sound travels so you thought you'd let them know to save them any embarrassment
-then clap and cheer them on if you hear them again Grin
