Is it normal to be in this much pain after coil fitting

I had the worst pain having the coil fitted I've ever experienced in my life.

I had cramps in my tummy like period pain for 2 days after as was described perfectly normal by the doctor and nurse.

I'm on day 4 now and the pain in my lower back/kidney area and inside of me is so painful I can't sleep, even after taking a prescribed sleeping tablet and two prescription co-codamol plus a hot water bottle.

I've felt for the strings, I can feel 1. TMI - there is lots of brown sticky blood around it and my cervix feels very swollen.

I know how my normal cervix feels through my cycle as when I was TTC, would feel for positioning and type of cervical mucus.

It's so sharp and painful like spasms mixed with cramps mainly in my back.

No that’s definitely not normal. I think I’ve had five over the years. Friends have had them. Never heard of this. You need to get it checked ASAP.

Agree, not normal. Seek medical attention.

Not normal

I had a reaction like that. I ended up having mine removed at the hospital and was treated with intravenous antibiotics because I didn't get it seen to as quickly as I should have. Get yourself seen by a doctor asap.

Nope, not normal - I got mine replaced yesterday and I had about 12 hours of cramps, a tiny bit of bleeding and I'm fine today, same as when I got the last one fitted.

Call 111 - I'd imagine they'll send you for a scan to check it's not migrated.

I have had loads of coil changes over the years, and never experienced anything like that. Sounds like quite an extreme reaction. Start with 111, especially as it's the weekend. It needs to be checked by a gynie specialist. Depending on what happens via 111, also speak to people who fitted it..

Not normal. Try 111

I had these exact symptoms after a coil fitting and left it thinking it was settling in - ended up in A&E with rigors from a high fever. The coil had caused an infection in my womb, Endometritis. Please get seen today!

My DD had the same. She was screaming the house down. She was scanned and the coil wasn't in the right place. The tops of the T shape were bent. She had the Mirena originally. It was removed and she had the Kyleena fitted. It is smaller.
