Choosing which days at nursery - three year old

daysdaze · 03/03/2021 12:37

My son used to do one day a week before the pandemic. He settled soon enough and used to enjoy his time there.

Now he's three, he'll be doing two days a week.

I can't decide between Mondays and Tuesdays OR Fridays and Mondays.

Which would you choose and why?

(Posting for traffic, sorry)

Monday and Tuesday.

When I was p/t friday was the day most people were also off so could do things together.

noloh1 · 03/03/2021 12:40

Out of those days, I would choose Monday and Tuesday so they are together. Although, i try to avoid Monday’s, are there are 8 bank holidays and you still have to pay for them! My daughter does three days now, she does Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

could you do Tues and Fridays? COvers the BH thing and it isn;t two days in a row which you both might find hard?

IslaRoseGraceEtc · 03/03/2021 12:44

Ours has a policy that if they get sent home with a temp etc that they can't return for 48 hours afterwards. Therefore I'd go for Mon and Fri as ds is constantly getting sent home!

Anordinarymum · 03/03/2021 12:44

Choose 2 days in a row as it keeps up the continuity

Heyha · 03/03/2021 12:46

Our nursery have recently stopped charging for bank holidays but I think that's unusual-might be worth checking. DD has Friday as one of her days and it's always quiet so she gets loads of input and attention. Then she does some busier days too so gets to play with a range of kids, but I do think Fridays must be lovely as well.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/03/2021 12:47

I used to send mine Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Meant we could visit grandparents for long weekends (DH often had Friday afternoon off).

PolarnOPirate · 03/03/2021 12:48

DS did fri and mon for a while through necessity and while I was nice for me (4 easy days in a row with DH around on the weekend), it never felt ideal for DS to have 2 and 3 days between nursery days.

Monday is out because of bank hols, a real pain.

Fridays are great because loads of working parents have Fridays off so the nurseries are less busy then.

babyyodaxmas · 03/03/2021 12:49

Bucking the trend here. Nurseries are quiet on fridays, so your LO will get more 1:2:1 attention. I'd try for tuesdays and fridays or thursday and fridays. Wednesday's are very busy.

Aimee1987 · 03/03/2021 12:50

Mine goes Monday to Wednesday. I think the continuity is good for them.
The flip side we considered is spreading it out so that hes rested between his nursery days.

Symbion · 03/03/2021 12:52

I like working Fridays as it's a bit more chilled and I think nursery is good then for similar reasons. But 2 days together would be better friendship wise. I think a lot of kids who are in both Monday and Friday will be full timers. So I think if it has to be one of those options, then Monday and Tuesday, but a different 2 consecutive days would be better.

Mysterian · 03/03/2021 12:52

Monday and Friday. As the previous poster said they're quieter days. And Fridays are always a bit more fun. It's also easier to settle children in when they don't go too long between days.

WisestIsShe · 03/03/2021 12:54

I'd pick two days apart because it can be trickier to settle otherwise, too big a gap between attendance. They go home and convince themselves it was all a bad dream!

SFHJ · 03/03/2021 12:55

I never did mondays as lost some that had to be paid due to bank holidays.

Ostryga · 03/03/2021 12:56

Dd goes Monday-Wednesday and every other Friday. Her favourite day by far is Friday and I despise paying for bank holidays!

So I’d go Tuesday &Friday if you can, it also means if they catch a sickness bug on Tuesday they should be able to go back by Friday.

Vetyveriohohoh · 03/03/2021 12:58

Check with your nursery re bank holidays, ours are open on them except Christmas

daysdaze · 03/03/2021 12:58

Another option is Fridays and Tuesdays.

Waiting to hear back whether there is a place on Wednesdays so he can do Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

I'm less concerned about the amount of time between going and think I would prefer to keep the continuity of two consecutive days. He did settle well when he only did one day a week.

I think this is making a lot of sense

Does this correlate with days you’ll take off work? DS goes tues -thurs and I’m off with him Friday and Monday, which is perfect.
Mainly because I don’t need to take hours off for a bank holiday, so it’s a bonus for my annual leave too.

Sauvignonblanket · 03/03/2021 13:03

Monday and Tuesday, or another combination so the days are back to back otherwise it becomes too disjointed for your DS.

I'm a SAHM. So doesn't make a difference

It's a 50/50 opinion on this being true so far!

Not every nursery charges for bank holidays. Check your contract first.
littlejalapeno · 03/03/2021 13:08

Tuesday - Fridays just mornings or just afternoons. If you’re a SAHP and don’t have to worry about juggling work hours. Shorter days can be less tiring.
