Leaving a job I hate...

I started a new job in August of last year. Unfortunately just three weeks into the role I found out my dad was dying of lung cancer and he passed away three days before Christmas.

I took three weeks off work sick in January but now I am back at work I absolutely hate my job, it is working from home due to the pandemic and I feel I haven't hit the ground running with the role, I haven't bonded with the team and to be honest after losing my dad my head is just not in it as my mental health is really quite low.

I am lucky that I am in a situation that I can afford to take some time out as my dad has left me some money so I want to leave but really dont want to work my notice as the job is really effecting my mental health.

AIBU and any advice on going forward?

You only have to give 1 weeks notice if you’ve been there less than a year so just do that and leave?

Hand in your notice, get signed off with stress if it is really that difficult, go in to hand all the equipment back, then that's it.

What’s your notice period?

I sympathise, I was in a similar situation a few years ago. My grandad (who I was extremely close to) died a month after I’d started a new job. It was unbearable and my employer sadly wasn’t very sympathetic. It tore apart my mental health and I would’ve taken some time off if I’d been able to afford it at the time!

If you really can’t work your notice, I’d go to the doctors and ask to be signed off on stress/mental health grounds.
