Not been charged for my new sofas?

Hi all
I bought two sofas post edited at OP's request by MNHQ in October, set for delivery 19 weeks later.
I paid in full at time of purchase, I don't have a 'credit' account with them, and always pay everything straight away in full on my bank card. They only have one set of bank account details for me so its not like its come off another bank account, and I've used them many times for smaller purchase without any issues.
So the payment did not come off after a few days and I got in touch with live chat on the website, who told me that payment would come off in 19 weeks when the sofas were despatched. So I kept the money ring fenced in my account.
The sofas arrived early in January ahead of schedule.
Payment still didn't come off. I chatted on the site again and they said payment would probably come off when the initial date of despatch I was given came.
It hasn't.
Now we are into March and payment still has not come off, so today I live chatted with them again, and they have told me that payment has cleared from their end on 12th January (day it was delivered) from my account.
It absolutely has not. I'm sitting looking at my bank statement now!

So this morning I have been in touch with my bank, who have confirmed that no money has ever been taken for that amount from this company. They have suggested I ask the company to provide screenshots from their end to prove that they have the payment, and then there is nothing more I can do.
It's almost £1000.
I'm at a loss as to what to do now. I've kept a copy of all the chat transcripts and emails for future reference in case anything ever comes of this, but how long am I expected to chase this for?
I've also contacted the on their Facebook page but have had no response.
What would you do?

Quietly stop pursuing it Grin

I'd do what the bank has suggested and ask for proof from their end. It could be that they've entered your bank details incorrectly and someone else has lost that money. There's not much more you can do after that!

Sciurus83 · 02/03/2021 11:06

Um, enjoy my free sofa?!

CoffeeRunner · 02/03/2021 11:07

Enjoy your free sofas?

Seriously though, you have asked them to take payment 3 times. They have told you the payment has cleared. What more can do actually do?

cardibach · 02/03/2021 11:07

I’d stop chasing now. They’ve told you they’ve been paid. Keep the money ring fenced and keep all the screen shots, so if they find out in the future that they took it from the wrong person/didn’t in fact take it at all, you can prove you asked and can also pay up.

Exhausted4ever · 02/03/2021 11:08

They have 6 years and 1 day from transaction date to charge you if they realise. So I'd put the money in a savings account, stop contacting them and spend it in 6 years if they haven't charged you

See that was my first impression too, but isn't all this stuff automated now? And given that I've used this card before and payment has always come off promptly, does that not make that unlikely too? I'm worried someone else has been charged too!

I’d deffo stop chasing them tbh! Just keep the cost of the sofa aside in a savings account or something in case they ever come back for the Money! But you’ve chased a lot and they don’t seem to care that much

Heyahun · 02/03/2021 11:39

If someone else has been charged they will contact the company and get a refund it’s not your problem

HollowTalk · 02/03/2021 11:40

I'd get the company name removed from this thread, pronto!

user1471530109 · 02/03/2021 11:44

Could they have opened up a credit account in your name with them? Next used to do that?

mainsfed · 02/03/2021 11:47

Sounds like you've tried, just leave it now. Keep the money aside in case they ever pull their finger out.

After this thread and the thread where the lady hasn't been charged for a new kitchen, I'm thinking of ordering these in the hopes of this happening to me Wink

Aprilx · 02/03/2021 11:49

I’d keep the money to one side and wait to be contacted. I certainly would not follow them up any further, but one day, I would expect the mistake will be uncovered their end, hence I would keep it aside.

KnobblyWand · 02/03/2021 11:51

What are you doing, woman Grin

It's free!

Never look a gift horse in the mouth !!!

Gwegowygwiggs · 02/03/2021 11:55

Not being funny but why are you going so far out of your way to pursue this. Keep the money in savings for a while in case they do contact you for it, otherwise enjoy the bloody free sofas!

NoMackerelInSwindon · 02/03/2021 11:57

Keep the money aside for three years.

Beebumble2 · 02/03/2021 12:00

You might find when the accountants balance the books at the end of the financial year, that they notice the error. So keep the money aside.
