I'm currently a SAHM with DS who is 11 months old. I am 26 and we are planning on trying for DC2 next year. During this time I am thinking of retraining and changing my career so when DC are both in pre school/school I will be ready to go into a new exciting career. I don't have a career as such now, I've always worked in sales/customer service and enjoy it but it's not what I want to do with my life. However I am struggling to decide on which direction to go in. I'm open to completing a degree and am thinking of getting in touch with a career coach for advice, but in the meantime I'd love to know what careers you all have and if you'd recommend to go down that route and what training you did? Thanks!

There’s an organisation called career shifters which is worth a look.

Have you done a degree. What are your strengths and skills. What are you looking for a job - flexibility, high pay, status?

Degrees are overrated imo. Unless there is a specific reason you need one. E.g. to become a pharmacist, doctor, optomitrist, etc.

Also being able to get a good degrees depends on your current qualifications.

What did you get in gcse maths and english? What did you get in a-levels?

Maybe think about the job you want to do, then looks for ways to enter that profession.

Personally, im law enforcement turned accountant. I was able to break into new field as a trainee (with huge pay cut) due to having much Grades A+ at GCSE and A Levels.

Have you thought of the Civil Service? You could apply for the fast track schemes & within a couple of years be earning a good salary with family friendly working, you could work part time, term time only, flexi time, do your hours to fit in with school/nursery. There are so many different branches so there should be something you are interested in.
