Aibu for not shielding

I'm 28, type 1 diabetic, today I got a letter, dated the 17th of February by the way, that I have been put on the CEV list and I'm advised to shield!

In my personal opinion this letter is 1 year to late, and unless they pay my full wage I'm not gonna bother, my wife is also a nurse and the last 4 or 5 months, everyday she has gone to work she has been looking after covid patients!

I also got my first does of the vaccine yesterday, and that was only because my wife arranged it for me!

My wife thinks I'm being unreasonable and I shouldnt take the risk, even tho I have for the last year

I also got that letter. Dated the 17th. I've continued to work. I've worked throughout the whole pandemic so I'm not going to stop now. (Work would pay full pay though)
However, it has fast tracked me to getting the vaccine, which I got at the weekend.
Totally up to you what you do. Its not the law, only advice.

I haven't shielded the whole time. I decided it would be worse than getting Covid. And it would have been. I got a very mild dose of it. I'm a nurse. But on a 'shielded' ward.

DP hasn't shielded, he has cancer, is on chemo and a life limited prognosis. He figures there are no positives to him shielding.

I'm type 1, 58, overweight and I haven't got a shielding letter (or a call to get the vaccine either). What has changed to make you more vulnerable now? Nothing., and in a couple weeks you will have much better immunity.

I am T1 too, had my letter beginning of last week. I've not been shielding, I've been careful all along, visiting shops as infrequently as possible/ordering online where I can etc. I'm a SAHM so don't have to worry about the work aspect but I suspect if I did then I would just continue to work. I feel it's a little too late, although like pp I did get my vaccine sooner, I had it on Friday.

My son hasn't shielded despite many letters and texts telling him he should over the past year.
He is immunosuppressed which lowers his immunity, but he decided he would rather work than to shield.

The letters are only advisory, but people often seem to see them as law and feel that they have to shield whether they want to or not.

Second identical thread you've started today about this but the first one was on the correct board.

No need to shield if you don't want to! I wouldn't bother either.
