Scottish Power - trying it on

Not so much an AIBU but posting for traffic.

I had a letter from Scottish Power this morning all about how my energy prices are rising and inviting me to move from their standard tariff to a fixed 1 or 2 year plan. So far so good so I went to the change tariff page.

Even with the price increase on my tariff the two options available were both £300 more than the standard variable tariff that I am currently on Shock

It's wrong IMO, I mean they have vunerable customers who might not notice the big price increase with changing to a new tariff when it's presented as like this.

Not the first utility company trying this kind of thing and won't be the last. I assume OP you are now looking at alternative suppliers and comparing prices?

Me too, I’m going to change supplier. Their prices have double in the five years I have been with them. My bill was expected to rise by £200.

Last month they sent me a letter informing me that my monthly direct debit was increasing by £120. Our bills have been a bit higher due to being at home in lockdown but I don't think we've increased them by £1440 a year!!
