To think PBP don't get a second chance?

Just that, I have a friend that was banned for a comment she made years ago on mumsnet. She said ever since then as soon as she has said anything that mumsnet seems appropriate, she is immediatly banned again.

I think this is harsh over a comment made years ago. AIBU?

Their website, their rules.

ReverendRicketyCricket · 27/02/2021 21:11

And what is it you your friend is saying that is causing the problem?

hereforabadtimenotasadtime · 27/02/2021 21:16

@ReverendRicketyCricket she never went into specifics. We were just speaking about posts on mumsnet and she brought this up.

And I have noticed a lot of innocent posts being deleted saying "PBP" and I wonder why it's gotten deleted when the post was fine.

Because they're wind up merchants and no one's got time for that except windup merchants apparently.

The only ones I see with that message are goady or weird.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 27/02/2021 21:20

So she was banned for saying something inappropriate. Then comes back and continues to say inappropriate things?
Well if course she will be banned again then .

Batshittery · 27/02/2021 21:21

You are contradicting yourself. Do you think she should be allowed to continue posting when she has been banned? If she is still making comments that MN deem inappropriate then she is still being a pest.
Is it really you?

HumourReplacementTherapy · 27/02/2021 21:22

Because she's banned. As in no longer permitted to post. So if she comes back and says 'hello, good afternoon I bloody love it here' she will still be banned, her post will get deleted.
She can't just keep creating new accounts......
They know she's banned.

Samcro · 27/02/2021 21:23

I suppose mn hq have to have rules.
Bans are not always forever. But i suspect its most likely what your "friend "said.

whenmyvoil · 27/02/2021 21:25

Would love to see what she's saying now 😅 and no not me to whoever asked

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 27/02/2021 21:25

Well if she is allowed back on, that is a second chance?
If she posts something inappropriate again, it doesn't seem unreasonable - possibly MN jump to "ban" rather than warn/simply deleting the post because they are aware that she has posted inappropriate stuff in the past?
Maybe she should stay away from controversial topics, or moderate what she posts in response to them?

I suppose she could create a new email address solely for MN use, and use a different name - I don't recollect the registration process, but if she continues to post stuff that gets reported, it's going to happen over again.

whenmyvoil · 27/02/2021 21:26

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay that makes sense

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 27/02/2021 21:27

Given that many PPs seem to thing OP is "the friend", wonder how long this thread will stay up.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 27/02/2021 21:28

Nobody gets banned for no reason.

whenmyvoil · 27/02/2021 21:33

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay yes was thinking that myself, there will be numerous reports but I have no qualms as I'm not a PBP

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 27/02/2021 21:34

@whenmyvoil are you the op under a new name?

Batshittery · 27/02/2021 21:34

OP seems to have had a nc fail

whenmyvoil · 27/02/2021 21:36

Yes as worried my friend seen post and knew my username. Will have to change again now Blush

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 27/02/2021 21:40

I think PBPs just use different IP addresses, come back, post innocuously for a bit to see if they're rumbled - and when they are, they get deleted again.

It's a bit pathetic that the PBPs don't get the hint but, sad lives dependent on trolling. Creepy stalkers all of them.

OP - did your friend ask MNHQ about it? From my experience (and I've danced near the line quite often), they're genuinely reasonable and unless provoked, would be reasonable.

jimmyhill · 27/02/2021 22:01

Your mate's a troll. It's not exactly in MNHQ interest to be banning members for no reason given that userbase size is how they monetise the site

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 27/02/2021 22:08

First of all no one really gets banned simply for one comment, unless it's a repeat "offender" or something really bad.

Generally, MN give plenty of warning and suspensions first. I should know.Grin

Secondly, once you're banned you're banned. Changing IP's and email addresses and keeping a very low profile might keep you under the radar, but once MN's attention gets drawn to you (i.e. reports) then you're still banned so they kick you out. It doesn't matter if the comment is "i rescue children from burning fires and discovered the cure for cancer and I'm here to offer it for free" or something they deem "inappropriate ". You're still banned, they found you, you're out.

whenmyvoil · 27/02/2021 22:31

Thank you for explaining it so well Smile

Mockolate · 27/02/2021 23:06
