Panicking about travel cot - please reassure!!!

Hi mamas,

My LG is sleeping over at her grandparents tonight in her travel cot. When I dropped her over I helped set up the cot and it made me so anxious about her sleeping in there. I know obviously they are safe to sleep in but I couldn’t help looking at it and thinking what if she rolls against the side and stops breathing in the night??

She is 5 months and a great sleeper, she rolls back to front and front to back really easily but is such a fidget during the night.

How can I get some sleep tonight? Please reassure me mamas 🙈 I want her and us to be comfortable with her staying away and being with family so please no judgment about her being too young x

If she can roll she's going to be just fine. I expect her grandparents will check on her lots too. Try and relax!

My nieces slept in travel cots when they were at my Mum & Dads when they were tiny. Never had any problems at all in them. One of them moved lots during the night, we'd regularly find her at the opposite end from where she started

Relax and enjoy your good night sleep

I honestly have felt sick for the last few hours since she went to bed. Do you ever get used to it?

I’ve not been well recently and soon have to be in the hospital for a few days so she will have to stay there so want her to be used to it and want myself to relax!

i was the same when my firstborn started sleeping at my parent’s. i couldn’t settle at all and i rang my mum about fifty times to check on the baby. he was fine in a moses basket and later a travel cot. and you do get used to it after the first couple of times. all four of mine have been sleeping at their grandparent’s house most weekends since they were about 3 months old and they’ve all been fine. i comforted myself by telling myself that my mum and dad managed to raise three kids to adulthood so they must have done something right!

With my three youngest DC, we only had a travel cot. We had no space for a full size one. DR slept in it until no3 son was 3 months old, then he had it until no4son was born (when he was two) and no4son was three when he moved to a toddler bed.
They are now 18, 16, and 14, tower over me by at least six inches, and are just fine!
Travel cots have safety standards and are designed for babies to sleep in! It's hard when your imagination/anxiety runs away with you, but your baby will be just fine.

Honestly thank you all so much for your lovely words of reassurance. Having a tiny human is so scary! X
